About Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission (WSCC)

The WSCC is an arm's length government agency responsible for administering the Workers' Compensation Acts, Safety Acts, Explosives Use Acts and the Mine Health and Safety Acts.

Together, with their partners, the WSCC provides services to almost 40,000 workers and 4,000 employers across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, processes over 3,000 claims annually, and conducts over 1,000 inspections annually to ensure the safety of northern workplaces. The WSCC is unique in Canada as it is the only workers' compensation organization in the country to insure workers across more than one province or territory.

About the Opportunity

WSCC is looking for a full-time Case Manager based in Iqaluit, NU.


In this role, you will report to the Supervisor, Case Management, and be responsible for adjudicating and managing complex, long-term claims. You will work closely with injured workers, employers, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to facilitate the best course of action for medical treatments, develop vocational plans, and support a safe and timely return to work.


More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Adjudicating and managing complex and time-loss claims exceeding six weeks
  • Reviewing and confirming initial entitlement and ongoing eligibility decisions
  • Coordinating with workers, families, employers, healthcare professionals, and advocates
  • Assessing the social, economic, and emotional impacts of injury on workers’ lives
  • Consulting with medical advisors and return-to-work specialists
  • Determining eligibility and developing vocational rehabilitation plans
  • Managing professional rehabilitation service providers and referrals
  • Authorizing and arranging vocational and functional assessments
  • Monitoring rehabilitation progress and ensuring program effectiveness
  • Preparing correspondence, documenting actions, and maintaining claim files
  • Ensuring appropriate payments and maintaining financial accountability
  • Meeting quality assurance measures and key performance indicators


About You

To qualify, you will need a bachelor’s degree in social sciences (or studies related to disability management would be considered an asset), and a minimum of 4 years of case management experience working with clients in a related environment. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.


Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience working with and developing vocational and rehabilitation plans
  • Strong adjudication, analytical, and evaluation skills
  • Excellent time management with the ability to manage changing deadlines and priorities
  • Sound decision-making abilities that are ethical, fair, and informed
  • Proficiency in computer applications and documentation systems
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams
