Summary

Benevolence Case Manager

Wheaton Bible Church is looking for a Benevolence Case Manager to give oversight to the internal and external Benevolence Ministry of the church so that it supports Wheaton Bible Church’s Purpose, Values, and Mission of seeing people Love God, Love One Another, Love our Neighbors, and Love the Nations. They will integrate this within the Congregational Care structure alongside the Congregational Care Team and Shepherding Team. There is also partnership for professional development and case consultation with Outreach Community Ministry.

Responsibilities

Partner with the Congregational Care Director in carrying out our unified approach to congregational care ministry through benevolence for the church by overseeing our benevolence systems and processes - including follow-up. This will be done in coordination with Puente del Pueblo and other local outreach partners.

  • Managing and Providing benevolence care and social work services to congregants and those visiting the church from the broader community.
    • Conducting Assessments
    • Devising an Intervention Plan
    • Maintaining a relationship with and/or meeting regularly (and preventatively) with those with chronic needs/issues.
    • Coordinating referrals
      • Point the congregant or community member to our network of referrals and if necessary, make the referral with or for them.
      • Follow up with the congregant or community member and referral source.
  • Mobilize and supervise lay workers who are working with individuals needing assistance.
    • Form a team to serve as aides to those identified as needing assistance
    • Coordinate and assign various people to each lay worker.
    • Provide individual and group training to lay workers around various issues.
  • Consult with Wheaton Bible Church shepherds and staff regarding congregants who are struggling with financial needs.
    • Assist in providing training to the pastors on topics that are often issues for people as directed by the Congregational Care Director.
    • Be available to offer assistance/consultation to the Shepherding Team.
  • Serve in churchwide projects or ministry initiatives as well as Christmas and Easter services, CareFest, and Missions Fest. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Participate as a member of the staff team and be available to assist in general duties as opportunities arise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in social work or related field required. A Master's in social work (MSW) preferred or ready for MSW pre-license.
  • 1-3 years of experience as a Social Worker or similar field.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and the ability to assess them.
  • Knowledge of community resources and the ability to coordinate them.
  • Experience recruiting, training, overseeing, and developing volunteer leaders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with a wide range of situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and engaging speaking skills.
  • Proven administrative skills around systems and processes.
  • Alignment with and commitment to assisting the ministries of the church in fulfilling our mission, vision, and values.
  • Acceptance and agreement with WBC Statement of Doctrine and Faith and WBC Statement of Christian Lifestyle.

Status: Part-Time Hourly (25 Hours), including Fridays and Sundays

Benefits: WBC employees working 20 hours or more per week receive paid holidays and PTO.
