Summary

Position Summary:

The Business Development Officer is crucial in driving Labor CU's growth by building relationships, increasing brand awareness, and expanding our membership base. This position works with established Sponsor Employer Groups (SEGs) and identifies new opportunities for adding SEGs within our Field of Membership (FOM). The ideal candidate will embody our core pillars and drive member growth through multiple channels. This position will drive member growth by utilizing multiple channels to cultivate business relationships with centers of influence and engage potential members into joining the credit union. This will be accomplished through the successful demonstration of our core pillars, defined above, and through the successful execution of the duties and responsibilities listed below.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • New Business Development (40%)
  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities within our FOM
  • Drive membership growth and new member pipelines through cold calls, emails, and social networking.
  • Consult with prospective companies about their employees' financial goals and identify ways to promote Credit Union products, loans, and services to meet those needs best.
  • Conduct on-site new employee orientations for SEGs, membership drives, and financial seminars and presentations for our FOM agencies, labor unions and counties.
  • Maintain a strong community presence and build brand awareness through on-site events, networking, and other outreach activities with and/or for employers within FOM.
  • Relationship Management (30%)
  • Increase membership penetration from existing agencies/SEGS through innovative collaboration and partnerships.
  • Organize and conduct membership retention programs among SEGs, labor agencies and existing members.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers through regular, personalized contact
  • Collaborate with team members towards achieving the organizational goals (30%)
  • Partner with Marketing, Member Services, and Lending for Credit Union promotions, departmental goals and develop targeted member outreach and relationship building programs.
  • Maintain accurate records of statistics, contacts, and agency relationship activities and provide comprehensive written reports on a regular basis regarding development efforts.
  • Propose and implement new strategies to enhance member acquisition and retention


Position Requirements:

  • A high school degree with some college background is preferred.
  • Proven work experience in business development, community outreach or sales.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to deliver engaging presentations.
  • Strong prioritization, organization, and project management skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access).
  • Significant travel within a 100-mile radius of Washington, D.C., is required. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are also required. Occasional travel (25%) to regional sites is also required.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • This is a hybrid role that combines remote work with in-person meetings. The candidate must have a quiet, dedicated space at home that is secure to protect non-public information. The candidate must also have high-speed internet and/or secure Wi-Fi network access at the location.
