About the Role
This is a senior growth-focused role that requires a strong understanding of the PR and communication ecosystem in Africa, including the tools, behaviours, and industry trends that shape it. You will be responsible for identifying, developing, and closing business opportunities, while also nurturing client relationships and converting inactive users into active, long-term customers.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, highly persuasive, and comfortable engaging with C-suite executives, agency leaders, and decision-makers in the media, marketing, and corporate sectors.
You will report directly to the CEO and work closely with marketing, product, and customer success teams to translate market insights into actionable growth strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities across Africa’s PR, media, and communication sectors.
- Develop strategic relationships with communication executives, PR agencies, media organisations, and corporate teams.
- Drive the conversion of dormant or inactive subscriptions into paid, active users through outreach and strategic engagement.
- Design and implement outreach plans and lead generation strategies to expand SquirrelPR’s footprint in high-priority markets.
- Represent SquirrelPR in industry forums, conferences, and key B2B engagements as a credible voice on PR technology.
- Collaborate with the product and marketing teams to ensure offerings are aligned with client needs and industry expectations.
- Maintain accurate sales records, forecasting, and performance tracking.
- Provide feedback on market trends and customer needs to help shape future product and service offerings.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in business development or sales leadership within the communications, PR, martech, or SaaS industries, preferably with an Africa-wide outlook.
- Deep understanding of the media and PR industry in Africa, including key players, challenges, and opportunities.
- Familiarity with PR software tools, media databases, newsroom engagement, CRM systems and digital communication platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the confidence and presence to engage C-level executives and decision-makers.
- A keen understanding of the psychology of operators within the media and communication industry and their specific needs related to PR tools.
- Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills, both written and verbal, are non-negotiable.
- A bold, energetic, and outgoing personality, with the ability to build and sustain long-term client relationships.
- Strong networking abilities and established connections within the African PR and communication ecosystem are highly advantageous.
- Results-driven mindset with a strong track record of closing deals and meeting revenue targets.
- Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in French is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
