Business Development Manager
Massumi + Consoli, a nationwide law firm focused on private equity and M&A, seeks an experienced and detail-oriented Business Development Manager to join our growing team.
This position will work under the supervision of the firm’s Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy to help build and execute M+C’s overall marketing and business development strategy, including strategic business planning, pitches and proposals, events and sponsorships, sales pipeline management, key client initiatives and business development coaching and training. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with an entrepreneurial mindset and a strong track record of project management and execution.
The right candidate will possess a strong background in private equity and M&A business development and marketing support.
Responsibilities Include:
Strategy & Business Planning
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy to execute the firm’s business development strategy and contribute ideas that drive innovation, impact and process efficiency across the Marketing & BD function
- In collaboration with the Director of Marketing and the firm’s attorneys, support and execute annual strategic business development plans for practices and individual partners, defining milestones, ensuring alignment with firm priorities and executing effective tracking, follow-through and implementation.
- Conduct strategic research on potential clients and competitors, as well as practice developments to identify business trends and opportunities and ensure that M+C is optimally positioned to grow market share.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support integration and business development planning for strategic lateral hires.
Business and Client Development
- Develop in-depth knowledge of the firm’s key clients, sectors, capabilities, attorney expertise and experience and other distinguishing strengths.
- Identify key targets and support the development of pursuit strategies, including go-to-market plans and cross-selling initiatives.
- Manage and respond to pitch/proposal and RFP requests, including leading on drafting content responses and coordinating with attorneys and other Marketing colleagues.
- Develop and maintain client-focused pitch materials, message points, marketing collateral, competitive intelligence, client lists and experience narratives.
- Evaluate, execute, and manage sponsorship opportunities, strategic alliances, and partnerships, ensuring the firm capitalizes on all benefits to maximize ROI.
- Plan and execute firm-hosted business development events, including dinners and receptions, client entertainment outings, substantive presentations, etc., leading coordination across all aspects from list development and materials to tracking, follow-up and ROI analysis.
- Develop and institute best practices for business and client development strategies and processes.
Marketing
- Maintain and update practice group descriptions and attorney bios, working with lawyers to ensure all materials remain current and up to date.
- Lead the submission process for legal directories and rankings (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500), including drafting content, coordinating attorney input and managing deadlines.
- Lead the firm’s submission process for PitchBook, MergerMarket and other relevant league tables.
- Serve as a power user and advocate for Marketing & BD technology platforms, including the firm’s CRM and experience management systems.
- In collaboration with Marketing colleagues, develop a thought leadership and content strategy that highlights and supports key growth priorities.
- Take a leadership role in mentoring junior Marketing personnel to support professional development and strengthen execution across the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
- 5–7 years of experience in business development or marketing within a law firm or professional services environment, preferably supporting a transactional practice.
- Excellent project management skills and a proven ability to manage complex projects with competing priorities, deadlines and stakeholder input.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with a high level of accountability.
- Strong project management capabilities, including planning, coordination, progress tracking and team communication.
- Demonstrated initiative and proactive mindset, with the ability to work independently and drive projects forward with minimal oversight.
- Comfortable providing strategic business development guidance across multiple practice areas.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with partners and senior stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships with attorneys and colleagues across the firm.
- Diplomatic and professional communication style, with sound judgment in managing sensitive or high-stakes interactions.
- Demonstrated ability to think creatively, introduce innovative ideas and strategically approach business development and marketing initiatives.
Location: Los Angeles, New York or Dallas metro area. We work on a hybrid office schedule requiring three full office days per week (generally Tuesday-Thursday), subject to change.
