Position Title: Business Analyst – Web Platforms

Reports to: SVP, Technology

Department: Tech Solutions

Location: 475 Springfield Ave, Summit, NJ; in-office position

Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

Summary / Job Objective: Simplicity Group is looking for a talented, energetic, and team-oriented Business Analyst to help build the industry’s leading technology platforms. The Business Analyst will be a key member of a dynamic and growing group of developers and project managers that will help shape the future of how life insurance, annuities, and other financial services are bought and sold.

As a Business Analyst, you will gather and document business requirements, assist in defining system specifications, and support the development of a scalable, user-friendly, and secure life insurance platform. You will be involved in the full lifecycle of platform development, from design and development to implementation and integrating technologies such as REST APIs, JSON data structure, and ACORD XML standards.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work with business stakeholders, product managers, and technical teams to elicit, document, and prioritize functional requirements.
  • Collaborate with software development teams to define technical specifications, ensuring alignment between business requirements and platform capabilities.
  • Assist in the design and enhancement of the platform architecture, focusing on system integration, scalability, and performance.
  • Understand and document technical processes related to platform development, including API integration, data structures, and platform workflows.
  • In partnership with other team members, ensure QA (automated and manual), deployment, and delivery needs are met.
  • Communicate with senior management to provide insights, alignment, and project success.
  • Build on top of a fun and collaborative team environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on and manage sprints, epics, tickets, releases, QA, and software developments plans.
  • Create, assign, and collaborate on Jira tickets, working with one of the smartest, fastest, and most passionate team of developers.
  • Groom tickets and provide details about what needs to be implemented, providing business requirements and rationale.
  • Validate and QA that software solutions meet business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain Confluence documents that capture platform essentials, making communication and collaboration cinch.
  • Work with designers, or draft your own wireframes, workflows, or back-of-the-envelope drawings to document and collaborate on improving the technology platforms.
  • Ensure the proper handling and transformation of data in formats such as JSON and XML within the platform.
  • Develop test cases and support quality assurance processes to ensure that the platform meets business requirements, user needs, and technical specifications.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for platform features, system requirements, and process workflows.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Experience with Scrum/Kanban methodology and partnering with a diverse group of developers and business partners.
  • Comfort or familiarity with complex products including life insurance, annuities, or other financial products.
  • Knowledge and experience with some of the technology tools we use (and passion to learn new ones):
  • o Agile: Jira, Confluence, Atlassian Administration
  • o Web: Google Chrome Dev Tools
  • o Workflows: Lucid Chart, Draw.io, Visio, or similar
  • o Wireframing/Sketching (nice to have): Figma, Balsamiq, Sketch, or similar
  • o Communication: PowerPoint, Excel, Word
  • Strong understanding of project management concepts including requirements gathering, communication, and documentation
  • Experience writing effective user stories and acceptance criteria and effectively facilitating requirement refinement meetings.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience / familiarity with basic web technology concepts (HTML, CSS, JSON, XML, JavaScript, etc.).
  • Ability to analyze data, be detail oriented, and understand basic data models.
  • General understanding or familiarity with application frameworks like Angular, Laravel, React, or others.
  • Experience with UX design and prototyping.
  • Knowledge of or experience with IDE’s like Visual Studio, PHP Storm, or other development tools.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation (based on experience)

  • Annual Base Salary: $100,000 - $120,000
  • This is an Exempt position
  • Annual performance bonus target: 5%
