Requirements of the Bus Driver
At least 21 years old
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
A valid CDL driver’s license in good standing
At least one year of professional driving experience
Drives fixed routes and operates vehicles and equipment (wheelchair lifts/ramps, bus)
Drives sets routes and operates vehicles and equipment (wheelchair lifts/ramps, bus headsigns, radios, fareboxes, etc.) safely and reliably.
Operates vehicles for official transit business only and by the system’s safety plan.
Provides customer courtesy to all passengers, including providing information on bus transit services and fares in an accurate and friendly manner.
Provides passenger assistance in boarding and alighting, especially for customers who are elderly, mobility impaired, or who have small children with them.
Collects and reports passenger fares and ridership in an accurate, honest manner.
Completes pre-trip and post-trip inspections according to the procedure, noting mechanical failures and maintenance needs on a Daily Vehicle Inspection Report.
Provides accurate survey documentation (i.e.: boarding/alighting, shelters/benches, obstructing tree limbs, maintenance issues, etc.)
