Position: Building Facilities Manager – High School
Reports to: Director of Facility Services
Summary of Position: Under the general supervision of the Director of Facility Services, performs the leadership for cleaning, maintenance, liaison and service duties to maintain the high school appearances and use at high levels maintains a high level of customer satisfaction of facility appearance and use. Provides leadership and supervision for facility service and custodial staff. Manages facility repairs, needs and records.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
2 years prior experience in supervision of staff
6-8 years prior experience in maintenance work
Current Illinois Driver’s License
Computer experience with Word, Excel and Google
Essential Job Functions - Manages high school services work to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction
- Manages the delivery of services to the high school complex overseeing the work in the areas of:
- Building maintenance
- Grounds and Athletic area care
- Event management
- Building cleaning
- Snow removal services
- Parking areas and services
- Identifies and implements ways to improve service delivery and cost effectiveness
- Observes work performance and corrects work deficiencies in facilities staff
- Directly supervises high school facilities staff. Participates in hiring, conducts performance evaluations and approves time off
- Participates in meetings related to construction and alteration activities at the school and serves as school liaison for construction activity
- Meets with High School Principal and designated staff to develop facility needs and plans to address facility deficiencies
- Understands and operates a highly complex physical plant
- Operates computerized control systems for fire and comfort systems
- Manages the performance of planned maintenance for building systems
- Inspects building and reports repair needs
- Meets with contractors and inspectors on building systems and repairs
- Manages the calibration of controls and operation of environmental systems
- Maintains operating schedules on computerized monitoring and control systems
- Manages service deliver for varsity athletic events including parking management
- Maintains locker room sanitation
- Trains facility staff in proper cleaning and sanitation methods
- Supervises custodian job responsibilities
- Arranges for contractor services in coordination with Facility Director
- Conducts assessments of services and develops service improvement plans
- Manages the high school snow removal plan
- Manages the parking areas at the high school
- Oversees the building physical security
- Develops facility plan for near term and long term facility needs
- Develops the cleaning plan for custodians, meets with staff and afternoon supervision to review cleaning effectiveness and the manager of activity preparation and customer feedback for the afternoon staff.
- Serves as an ambassador for the school by being courteous to students and visitors
- Conducts tours of the school for school guests
- Manages set ups for events such as lunches, dinners, meetings, performances and Board of Education meetings
- All other duties as assigned
Physical Ability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance. Physical ability to mop, shovel, buff, wipe and lift in the activities of a custodian. Physical ability to bend, turn, twist, kneel to low areas and to reach high areas. Ability to use ladders of 20 feet and less and powered personal lifts in regular inspection duties. Ability to work at heights in excess of 8 feet on rooftops.
Work Environment: Regular buildings/office environment. Ability to work around mild cleaning chemicals and dusty conditions without significant effect on the ability to the work. Ability to tolerate warm weather in non-air conditioned buildings during summer as well as cold weather conditions outside in winter and maintain adequate work pace.
