Summary

Bioinformatician position available at NIH (Bethesda, MD) We seek a bioinformatician/data scientist with a strong record of collaborative interactions with biologists. The successful candidate must have a M.S or Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or a related field and have the ability to work independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The position requires the applicant to possess a solid set of programming and analytical skills (e.g. Python, R) and a desire to learn and develop new approaches to analyze complex next generation sequencing (NGS) data sets (e.g. Hi-C, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Ribo-seq, RNA-seq, Methyl-seq, SNP analysis, etc.). Experience working with Hi-C/ChIP-seq/ATAC-seq and/or multi-omics data sets is highly desirable. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Deliver a diversity of multi-omics bioinformatics analyses (e.g. Hi-C, RNA-seq, DNA-seq, Chip-seq, Single-cell, CRISPR, etc.) to independent research groups within NIDDK. Use of pathway and transcription factor databases (e.g. MSigDB, Reactome, etc.), gene ontologies, and protein-interaction databases, as well as enrichment and network graphic tools (e.g. GSEA, Cytoscape) to test hypotheses and identify potential molecular mechanisms associated with phenotypes of interest. Prepare scientific presentations and reports to communicate key findings to independent research groups within NIDDK. Apply, adapt or develop relevant bioinformatic tools to process, integrate and analyze complex genomic data sets. Contribute to the development of manuscripts and presentations through the preparation of methods and figures. Convey computational biology principles and concepts to non-specialists within NIDDK research groups in a clear and precise manner and advise on relevant software, tools and approaches. The successful applicant will join the TriLab Bioinformatics team and work in a collaborative environment with a variety of independent groups within the Laboratory of Biochemistry and Genetics, Laboratory of Cell and Molecular Biology, and Laboratory of Bioorganic Chemistry that are applying computational techniques to answer fundamental questions in cell biology, genetics, and biochemistry within NIDDK. Possibility of partial or full telework within the US. Interested individuals should send a cover letter including relevant experience, curriculum vitae with list of publications, and the names and contact information of three references via e-mail to [email protected] at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. The applicant should be also prepared to show evidence of their coding skills. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt, and selected candidates will be contacted for a personal interview.
