Responsibilities

• Optimising tools developed by your colleagues and yourself.
• Contributing to the construction of pangenomes for our different crops.
• Providing advice to your colleagues on the experiments and the data that need to be generated to answer their research question.
• Participating in external and internal projects related to your field of expertise.
• Keeping yourself up-to-date with findings from academia and other sources through literature search and participation to conferences.

For this position, you would preferably be based on our site in Tienen, Belgium.

Required Skills

• You have an education in bioinformatics (MSc or PhD), or equivalent through experience.
• You have a good understanding of plant genetics.
• You have extensive experience in scripting and pipeline development using programming languages, such as Python, R, C++.
• You are developing pipelines using Git and/or Nextflow.
• You have experience with Azure Cloud computing.
• You are an independent worker who takes initiative, is a good listener, and has a very good eye for details.
• You are an excellent team player with good communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
• Additional knowledge of French and/or Dutch is a plus.
• Experience with the analysis of long-read sequencing data, building of databases, and machine learning is a plus.
