Behavior Specialist
Elementary School Level Job Title: Behavior Specialist Job Category: Exempt Department/Group: PPS Job Description Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, and in collaboration with the bulding-level administration, provide direct and consultative services for students with behavioral challenges ;provide training and work collaboratively with building administrators, certified staff, and teaching assistants to demonstrate best practices, strategies, and techniques to enhance their ability to address interfering behaviors with the classroom setting, and provide training to parents as recommended.
Minimum Qualifications:
* NYS Certification as a Teacher, School Social Worker, or School Psychologist (preferred not required)
* BCBA and/or LBA Certification (required)
Primary Activities
* Work directly with students who exhibit interfering behaviors and provide support and professional learning for staff who work with such students;
* Collect data via direct observation and consultation with classroom teachers, and recommend appropriate modifications to support student behavior;
* Conduct functional behavioral assessments as needed in conjuction with the building team;
* Work directly with students regarding their behavioral goals and implementation of behavior intervention plans;
* Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with administrators, teachers, teaching assistants, and students;
* Utilize consulting skills to ensure implementation and maintenance of intervention plans, including data collection;
* Provide training and assistance in, and modeling of, behavioral intervention procedures and explicit teaching and replacement behaviors;
* Develop and maintain a schedule that supports building needs, including being flexibile and receptive to change;
* Document outcomes, maintain accurate records of activities and data.
* Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
* Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
* Training in non-violent crisis intervention is preferred.
* Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
* Ability to organize and coordinate work.
* Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
* Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
* Is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.
* Is regularly required to climb, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and to reach above the head and reach forward.
* Is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and to talk and hear.
* Must have the ability to support the behavioral exhibited within the school setting.
* Must have specific vision abilities for close vision, distance vision, depth perception and tell the difference between colors
Work Environment
* The noise level in the work environment is typical for a school environment.
* The manager continuously interacts with the public and other staff and frequently meets multiple demands from several people.
* Work generally performed indoors.
Salary Range
