We are looking for a Battery & Thermal Test Engineer to join our team. The goal of a Battery & Thermal Test Engineer at Wisk is to support the design, execution, and analysis of battery and thermal system tests at the cell, module, and pack levels, ensuring the safety, performance, and reliability of our energy storage and thermal management systems for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. You will be part of the Energy Storage and Power Systems (ESPS) team, working hands-on with battery and thermal testing, instrumentation, and data analysis to validate cutting-edge technologies.
This is an
onsite work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at our Mountain View, CA office five days per week.
In This Role, You Will
- Design and execute battery performance, durability, and safety tests, focusing on thermal management and high-voltage safety.
- Set up test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems for battery cycling, thermal characterization, and abuse testing.
- Conduct thermal runaway, heat dissipation, and cooling system performance testing for battery packs and modules.
- Support high-voltage and environmental testing, including overcharge, vibration, and mechanical stress tests.
- Collect, process, and analyze thermal and electrical test data, identifying key trends and failure modes.
- Work closely with battery design, thermal, and systems engineering teams to optimize cooling strategies and heat dissipation.
- Ensure test lab safety by following high-voltage procedures and thermal safety best practices.
- Maintain organized documentation of test plans, results, and observations to support design improvements and certification efforts.
What You Will Do
- As part of the ESPS organization, you will act as a Battery & Thermal Test Engineer supporting the validation and certification of advanced battery and thermal management systems for eVTOL aircraft.
- You will execute battery and thermal test protocols to evaluate performance, safety, and reliability.
- You will work with test engineers and technicians to ensure accurate test execution and data collection.
- You will support root cause analysis, investigating thermal and electrical test failures.
- You will help maintain and troubleshoot test setups, instrumentation, and high-voltage thermal control systems.
- You will work closely with certification teams to ensure compliance with aviation battery safety and thermal management standards.
- You will contribute to the continuous improvement of battery and thermal test methods, automation, and lab operations.
Requirements
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with 2-5 years of experience in battery and thermal testing, preferably in the automotive, aerospace, or energy storage industries.
- Hands-on experience with battery test equipment, high-voltage systems, thermal sensors, and environmental chambers.
- Familiarity with thermal characterization methods, including heat flux measurements, IR thermography, and cooling system evaluations.
- Experience with test automation, data acquisition, and analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW).
- Basic understanding of battery systems, BMS, cooling technologies, and thermal safety testing.
- Ability to troubleshoot test setups, instrumentation, and data collection issues.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with test engineers, technicians, and design teams.
- This role may require up to 25% travel for test site support.
