Battery Management System (BMS) Development Engineer (W/M)
Permanent contract – Based in the Centre-Val de Loire region
Position Summary
The company aims to develop its own high-voltage battery systems (>400V, 50–200 kWh) for its Ground Power Units (GPUs), based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology. The key objective is to fully control the BMS technology to better adapt battery performance to the company’s specific operational needs.
Reporting Structure
You will be part of the R&D team, working alongside mechatronics engineers, mechanical engineers, and electronics engineers.
Main Responsibilities
Technical Design of High-Capacity BMS (50–200 kWh)
- Design architectures and electronic circuits for BMS solutions in line with technical specifications, safety standards, and regulations.
- Develop algorithms to monitor and control battery charge/discharge cycles, optimizing performance, lifespan, and safety.
- Implement measurement systems to monitor key battery metrics (voltage, current, temperature, state of charge) and set up protection mechanisms.
- Write and test embedded software to control BMS operation. Optimization and Integration of the BMS
- Perform performance analyses to evaluate system efficiency and propose improvements. Test under varied conditions to ensure reliability.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and control systems teams to ensure seamless BMS integration.
- Develop and execute unit, integration, and performance tests to ensure system readiness prior to commercial deployment.
- Provide technical support to production, installation, and customer service teams regarding BMS troubleshooting and maintenance.
Internal Technical Expertise
- Draft technical documentation, design specifications, and progress reports to track development decisions and outcomes.
- Stay informed about the latest battery management technologies, safety innovations, and sustainability trends.
Candidate Profile
Engineering degree in electronics (Centrale, INSA, Polytech, Supelec, Arts et Métiers, or equivalent).
5+ years of experience in BMS design and development in the automotive, aerospace, or space sectors.
Required Skills & Experience
- Solid knowledge of electronic circuit design
- Experience with PCB design
- Proficiency in embedded programming
- Simulation and modeling experience
- Validation and testing of embedded systems
- French B2 is mandatory
