Summary

Job Description

The role is responsible for overseeing the review and evaluation of all loan applications. This includes conducting thorough credit assessments, analyzing financial statements, and ensuring that credit decisions align with company policies and regulatory requirements. He/she will play a key role in ensuring that all loan applications are reviewed in a timely manner and provide sound credit decisions to minimize risk to the organization. This role requires leadership, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of credit risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Review all loan applications, ensuring that they meet the company’s credit policies and underwriting guidelines.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of financial statements, business plans, and credit histories to assess the creditworthiness of applicants.
  • Ensure that all loan reviews are completed in a timely manner and that decisions align with the organization’s risk appetite and business objectives.
  • Evaluate credit risk by analyzing key financial indicators, industry trends, and other relevant factors to assess the risk of default and potential loss.
  • Identify and mitigate risks by recommending appropriate credit terms and conditions, such as collateral requirements, covenants, or interest rates.
  • Conduct scenario analysis to anticipate potential risks, including changes in market conditions or borrower circumstances that may affect repayment.
  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while reviewing loan applications.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to credit decisioning standards, ensuring all decisions are documented and consistent with company guidelines.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of credit decisions, ensuring all loan applications and their supporting documentation are properly archived.
  • Identify opportunities for improving the credit review process, streamlining workflows, and enhancing decision-making efficiency.
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices, emerging trends, and changes in regulatory requirements that may impact credit decisioning.
  • Perform any other duties assigned to by line manager related to the nature of the work
  • Enforce, incorporate, and comply with all necessary controls and related information security policies, procedures, practices, training, reporting, personal due diligence and vigilance, within departmental/unit activities and operations.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • A tertiary level qualification from a recognized institution Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field

Years & Nature of Experience

  • Recommended to have 1 to 3 years of equivalent experience of underwriting experience where required competencies and experience has been demonstrated in credit analysis, risk management, or loan underwriting.
  • Knowledge of credit risk management, financial statement analysis, and lending practices.
  • Proven experience in reviewing and making credit decisions for various loan products (commercial, personal, mortgage, etc.).
  • Excellent understanding of regulatory requirements related to lending, including compliance with relevant laws and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners.
