Transportation

  • Produce design elements for profile grades, geometrics, drainage, pavement, retaining walls and other components related to transportation projects in accordance with Caltrans or local agency standards
  • Apply and Develop basic knowledge to include a variety of project elements including construction details and administration, staging, utility plans, and other components of plans, specification, and estimates (PS&E)
  • Calculate quantities and prepare engineering estimates
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, and memos for development of transportation projects
  • Perform preliminary field investigations and other research
  • Prepare alternative design options and document findings

General

  • Organize and maintain project files
  • Assure all PS&E are in accordance with company production and design standards
  • Acquires basic knowledge and develops skills in general civil engineering practices
  • Applies standards techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment
  • Assists with other tasks, such as preparation of permit applications, material testing, and AutoCAD work
  • Assigns tasks to, and coordinates with, technicians or administrative staff
  • Receives close supervision on unusual or difficult problems, and general review of all aspects of work
  • Other related duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Education, Licensure, or Certification Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited program
  • Engineer in Training (EIT)
  • Valid California driver’s license

Minimum Experience Required

  • 2 years of experience as an Assistant Engineer or similar
  • Knowledge of the Caltrans Highway Design Manual or California local agency standards
  • One year of prior experience with highway or roadway construction document preparation.

Other Required Skills

  • Advanced skills in the utilization of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and InRoads, and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interacts with staff, general public, officials, and contractors

Salary Description

$72,405 - $95,000 annual
