Transportation
Produce design elements for profile grades, geometrics, drainage, pavement, retaining walls and other components related to transportation projects in accordance with Caltrans or local agency standards
Apply and Develop basic knowledge to include a variety of project elements including construction details and administration, staging, utility plans, and other components of plans, specification, and estimates (PS&E)
Calculate quantities and prepare engineering estimates
Prepare technical reports, letters, and memos for development of transportation projects
Perform preliminary field investigations and other research
Prepare alternative design options and document findings
General
Organize and maintain project files
Assure all PS&E are in accordance with company production and design standards
Acquires basic knowledge and develops skills in general civil engineering practices
Applies standards techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment
Assists with other tasks, such as preparation of permit applications, material testing, and AutoCAD work
Assigns tasks to, and coordinates with, technicians or administrative staff
Receives close supervision on unusual or difficult problems, and general review of all aspects of work
Other related duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum Education, Licensure, or Certification Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited program
Engineer in Training (EIT)
Valid California driver’s license
Minimum Experience Required
2 years of experience as an Assistant Engineer or similar
Knowledge of the Caltrans Highway Design Manual or California local agency standards
One year of prior experience with highway or roadway construction document preparation.
Other Required Skills
Advanced skills in the utilization of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and InRoads, and Microsoft Excel
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Interacts with staff, general public, officials, and contractors
Salary Description
$72,405 - $95,000 annual
