Summary

Purpose of this role:

  • This role will combine elements of daily reporting along with broader editorial management responsibilities for both daily news and larger projects across all of Campaign Asia’s media platforms and live events.
  • Broadly, the associate/deputy editor’s time will be split between contributing to weekly coverage, editing and managing larger editorial projects.

  • Continue to build and maintain an extensive network of marcomms contacts throughout Asia Pacific, with special focus on Southeast Asian markets.
  • Work with the editor to develop and publish at least 5 pieces of content for Campaign across all media platforms weekly. One of these should be a lead or feature story. While not exclusive to SEA markets, these markets will be of particular focus.
  • Record video interviews and participate in regular podcasts as assigned.
  • Generate story ideas with editorial teams during daily meetings.
  • Take up news reporting assignments as assigned by the editor or editorial director.
  • Contribute to managing social media posts and interactivity with Campaign’s social media audience, working with the editor and others in the team to continuously improve social media coverage based on data analytics.
  • Attend and report on Haymarket and industry events throughout the region as required.
  • Moderate roundtables, panel sessions and emcee industry events as needed.

  • Assist the editor in assigning, scheduling and ensuring delivery of daily news for the afternoon bulletin every weekday.
  • Edit other writers’ work, provide feedback and advice for other journalists in the team and assist the editor on vetting and copyediting stories for the daily bulletin as needed.
  • Curate and send the daily bulletin when needed in the absence of the editor.
  • Help make key editorial decisions in consultation with the editor and editorial director and alone in their absence.
  • As a senior member of the editorial team, the associate/deputy editor should set a good example in terms of motivation, work ethic, insistence on quality editorial standards and in representing Campaign to the marketing industry.
  • Convene and at times lead weekly planning meetings around upcoming content and features as well as longer-term editorial projects such as Agency Report Cards, Campaign’s annual consumer brand survey and Power List.
  • Monitor digital engagement rates and work with editorial director to increase audience engagement
  • Work with the Awards teams in the planning and execution of recognition lists such as Women to Watch, 40 under 40 and Tech MVP by organising editorial contributions in the areas of judging and writeups. Some of these projects can be assigned to other team members to lead and deliver with team support and contributions. Others will be led by the associate/deputy editor.
  • Assist the editor in creating an annual content calendar in consultation with the editorial team, outlining key topics, themes and coverage priorities throughout the year.
  • Act as a catalyst for editorial innovation, expanding Campaign’s reach through new media channels and new forms of content.

  • Highly organised and self-motivated
  • Possess a hunger for journalism, strong writing skills, great motivational skills, the ability to secure news exclusives from industry and a knack for getting the best out of reporters
  • Good management and team skills, able to foster open communication and inclusivity.
  • Confident, with the ability to engender enthusiasm in others, internally and externally
  • Experienced writing, reporting and commissioning skills
  • Work with graphic tools like Canva to optimise visuals and infographics is a plus
  • Video and podcast editing ability is a further plus
  • Ability to build and manage a network of contacts and outside contributors
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Good personal communications and ambassadorial skills
