Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project’s (ANV) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to elevate life for youth and their families in Oakland and beyond, by challenging oppressive dynamics and environments through urban farming and access to the natural environment. Founded and led mainly by women and People of Color, ANV engages youth and families in safe and creative outdoor spaces in Oakland and the East Bay, CA.
Our vision for the future is for a community where youth and their families have access to healthy foods and healthy environments. We hope to inspire all people to strive to do their best to live a fuller, more confident life.
Acta Non Verba seeks an energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives. This position is a hybrid role - with an expectation to be onsite at least 3 days/week.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy, Vision and Leadership:
- Advise the Executive Team and other key members of senior management on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, financial priorities, and internal policy matters.
- Serve as the management liaison to the board’s finance and audit committees; effectively communicate and present critical financial matters at select board of directors and committee meetings.
- Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the Executive Director informed of all critical issues as related to finance and operations.
- Liaise between ANV and our financial vendors and partners (book keeper, tax auditor, ADP/payroll, banks, Ramp)
- Serve as an internal leader of the organization with the rest of the Executive Team
- Provide for all staff a strong day-to-day leadership presence; and support an open-door policy among all staff
Finance, Technology, and Human Resources:
- Compliance
- 990/RRF-1 Filing
- Financial Audits
- Insurance Audits
- Produce and implement a performance review process that measures and evaluates staff progress towards goals of the organization.
- Cultivate the values and mission of ANV within the organization
- Upgrade human resources functions including: onboarding/offboarding, training, development, compensation and benefits (including 403b plans), employee relations, performance evaluation and recruiting
- Manage our internal payroll and HR system; ADP, includes;
- Payroll
- Onboarding/Offboarding
- General ADP troubleshooting
- Maintain accounting system that provides the organization with quick access to financial information and enables strategic budgeting - working closely with our bookkeeping partners
- Analyze the current technology infrastructure and scope out the next level of information technology and financial systems that support the growth of specific programs and the organization overall
- Manage CAMP ANV’s 529 educational savings accounts
Team Development/Leadership:
- Oversee, direct, and organize the work of organizational finance and operations.
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
- Contribute to a “Leader, Leader” and “coaching” culture within ANV
- Training and certification records for all staff are consistently documented and maintained in accordance with HR best practices.
- Conduct annual performance reviews, and administer salary and Job Title adjustments.
Operations:
- Documenting and updating organizations SOPs for HR and Finance related processes.
- Maintain and manage the mail system
- Depositing Checks
- Paying Bills
- Receiving, scanning and triaging incoming mail
- Upgrade and implement an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process working closely with the Executive Director.
Knowledge & Skills
- 1-2 years experience in a management role, ideally with both external audit and in-house financial management, with a willingness to learn on-the-job
- Experience either as an employee or board member of a nonprofit organization; must be familiar with nonprofit finance and accounting regulations
- Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a growing organization
- Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise
- Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills
Additional Requirements
- Must have a driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Able to work in our West and East Oakland offices 3-5 days per week
- Must be able to regularly drive to the post office and bank branches in Oakland
- Engage with East Oakland community at Tassafaronga Village during CSA distribution on Wednesdays
Compensation & Benefits
- 100% FTE, Monday - Friday (Occasional weekends required.)
- Compensation: $75,000 annual salary
- Full Health, Dental, and Vision coverage available (including dependents)

- 80 hours of Vacation Time Off accrual annually
- 1 hour of sick leave accrued per 30 hours worked (up to 80 hours annually)

Strongly Desired:
- BA/ BS in Accounting, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field
- Bilingual English/Spanish/Arabic/Pashto
- Excellent people skills, customer service skills, and effective communication
- Familiar with Oakland Community
