Position Title: Associate Director Validation and Operations Engineering

We are seeking an experienced validation and operations engineering leader who is passionate about data, digital, and AI. This role is pivotal in securing the efficient and compliant operations of our developer platform, ensuring successful value delivery to Genmab’s business.
Position Overview
You are a hands-on technical engineering leader who will develop and execute a long-term sustainable vision for validation and operations across our platform ecosystem. You will solve operational, validation, and reliability challenges, and help deliver a scalable, secure, and performant platform for end-users. You will work closely with our cross functional spoke teams (e.g. data science, cloud, etc.), regulatory teams, and infosec teams to understand operational and regulatory requirements to align functional build-out. You will help champion automation with the usage of IaC and GitOps to build and scale validation and monitoring solutions. You will advocate for continuous improvements to the platform ecosystem, increasing automation and reliability, reducing operational overhead, and managing TCO.

Responsibilities
- Design platform level validations; ensure solutions meet quality and reliability standards and comply with defined requirements/specifications; drives requirements as needed by stakeholders to ensure necessary capabilities
- Own and maintain validation and operations implementations and environments for our platform ecosystem that ensures the health, performance, observability, and reliability of downstream solutions
- Design and implement automated testing frameworks and processes for efficient and continuous validation and monitoring; Automatic checks for inconsistency with desired behavior; systematic searches for worst-case outcomes
- Lead the design and build out of automatic regulatory compliance for applications built within the platform ecosystem to automatically meet regulatory compliance such as GXP.
- Design integration paths for data validation in production (both input and output) including data lineage, consistency, privacy, accountability, scalability, and bias
- Owns structured documentation and reporting of test results and communication with internal and external stakeholders
- Create a self-service unified logging and monitoring stack and integrations for solutions built with tools from the platform ecosystem
- Provide architectural and technical guidance for observability (e.g. logging, registry, etc.) and monitoring systems (e.g. alerting, drift detection, etc.)
- Partner with foundational cloud teams to ensure operational effectiveness, reliability, security and efficiency.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of governance frameworks and best practices within the organization.
- Provide ad-hoc validation and operational know-how to our spoke teams for best-practice system architecture design and solution scaling.
- Manage, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers; foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and learning; align career development with the broader organization and company objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelors in a quantitative subject (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research) or a related field with 10+ years of experience.
- Or MS/PhD in a quantitative subject (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research) or a related field with 5+ years of experience.
- Master's or PhD preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in a leadership/management role running validation and operational services at scale, managing technical teams, and/or collaborating with cross functional teams
- Expertise with governance, risk management, and compliance standards in Cloud environments.
- Understanding of industry standards and regulations
- Experience building scalable self-service systems or platforms using microservices and/or event-based services
- Experience analyzing and improving system performance and reducing costs.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders effectively.
Technical Qualifications
- Strong experience with commonly used programming languages such as Python, Spark, SQL or similar
- Experience using validation (e.g. deequ, pandera, great expecations, etc.), testing (e.g. pytest), and fuzzing (e.g. atheris, pythonfuzz) libraries
- Experience with SAST, credential scanning, code coverage tools (Junit) etc.
- Experience with modern logging, monitoring, and visualization tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Splunk, SignalFX, Datadog and integrations with common CSPs (e.g. AWS Cloudwatch)
- Experience with the AWS cloud-service ecosystem including AI/ML & Analytics related services (e.g. Sagemaker, etc.)
- Significant experience implementing IaC (Terraform, OpenTofu, CDK, Pulumi, etc.) + CI/CD for deploying automatic validation tools and cloud-based platform infrastructure at scale
- Knowledge of basic software development tools including VCS (GitHub, GitLab, etc.), CI/CD (GitHub/Lab Actions, Jenkins, etc.), JIRA
- Deep knowledge of containerization (e.g. Docker, Podman, etc.) and orchestration tools (e.g. Kubernetes, Rancher, etc.)
Bonus Qualifications
- Prior experience working within the pharma/biotech domain
- Proficiency in at least one or more strongly typed programming language such as C/C++, Java, Go, Rust, or similar with associated OO or functional design principals.
- Experience with large-scale distributed systems (e.g. Ray, Dask, Spark, etc.) and high-performance computing environments (e.g. Slurm, etc.)
- In-depth knowledge of data platforms (e.g. Databricks, Snowflake, or Lake Formation) and tools (e.g. dbt) and their underlying technologies (e.g. Delta, Iceberg, Hudi, Spark).
- Prior work with real-time/streaming infrastructure (e.g., Kafka, Spark Streaming).
- Experience with GitOps style tools for building and enabling developer platforms (e.g. ArgoCD, Crossplane, etc.)
- Experience with multi-cloud platform development (e.g. some combination of AWS, GCP, Azure)
For US based candidates, the proposed salary band for this position is as follows:
$188,400.00---$282,600.00
The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation, such as bonuses.
