Summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

This person will collaborate closely with the Soft Woven’s Design team to turn their original design into finished products by creating development tech packs. They will partner with the Senior Technical Designer to communicate necessary pattern and fit corrections to factories, advise construction finishings, attend fittings and do all that is necessary to successfully translate design’s vision into a finished garment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create new development tech packs using available templates
  • Work closely with design and product development teams to fill BOM with trims and fabrication following available charts
  • Conduct pass-offs with the design team to discuss design’s vision and fit intention for their assigned styles
  • Communicate design’s intent, fit and construction in the tech packs with support of the Senior Technical Designer
  • Illustrate flat sketches, construction images and pattern corrections via Illustrator to successfully communicate the necessary changes to factories
  • Monitor and maintain fit, construction, and workmanship standards for your product category and ensure consistency across all factories.
  • Organize and prioritize daily workload of assigned product to maintain development calendar
  • Assist in production tech packs during off-peak development times
  • Attend fittings and record any changes or notes to better enhance garment appearance and fit for future styles
  • Communicate with vendors regarding fit, specs, grading and construction via fit comments
  • Create and utilize body block library to maintain company’s standard of fit
  • Works closely with Senior Technical Designer and Soft Woven’s Design team to advance technical knowledge and to elevate the quality of the product

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4 Year College Degree: Preferred with training in Technical Design
  • 1-2 years in the apparel industry in technical design and/or pattern making
  • Product focus should be a balance of cut and sew and woven; exposure should consist of but not be limited to Tops - Blouses – Dresses – Skirts - Gowns
  • Strong basic understanding of fit, balance and garment construction, and fabric reaction
  • Computer: Proficiency in MS office (Excel/Word/Outlook), Adobe Design Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop)
  • Driven by the technical aspect of the design process
  • Knowledgeable about fabric, construction, draping, basics of grading, and pattern making
  • Adaptable to changes and ability to work in fast paced environment
  • Able to work under tight deadlines and prioritize/manage workload
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Have basic understanding of grading
  • Solution based team player
  • Detail Oriented and very organized
  • Self-motivated and willingness to learn and grow
  • Analytical

$70,000-75,000 base salary (This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this NY - based position. The base salary will depend on numerous factors such as: experience and qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other A+O employees.)
