Job Title: Assistant to the Manager of Business Affairs
Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000 a year
Job Details: 12 Month Position with a comprehensive a benefits package
This positions performs a variety of professional accounting functions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Business Office.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
Minimum of five (5) years related to accounting experience.
Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices, including fund accounting.
Experience preparing timely and accurate accounting reports.
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft products, including Word and Excel, and other financial software packages. Ability to acquire proficiency in department-specific computer applications.
Ability to work within difficult time constraints.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Working knowledge of applicable payroll laws, including employer’s responsibilities to the Internal Revenue Service, Connecticut Wage and Hour laws, Teachers’ Retirement Board, and COBRA.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of administration.
High degree of honesty and integrity to be demonstrated through references.
Demonstrated initiative.
Ability to use good judgment and employ reasoning skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to be flexible.
Demonstrated problem solving skills.
Ability to work both independently and with others.

Reports To: Manager of Business Affairs
Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation and presentation of the annual budget, and implementation and monitoring following adoption.
Assist accounts payable and payroll functions, when needed serve as backup.
Assist in oversight and monitoring of the Food Services department and management contract.
Assist in grant cash management.
Assist in year-end closeout.
Assist in preparation for the annual audit.
Reconcile bank accounts, provide oversight of school activity accounts, prepare financial statements and various reports.
Assist in performing a variety of accounting and analytical tasks including, analyses, projections, and forecasts, as requested.
Assist in maintenance of the financial accounting system to ensure proper and accurate accounting.
Assist in preparing financial reports, including the annual EFS (Education Financial System) report and grant expenditure reports.
Assist in purchasing, in compliance with Board policy, by informal quotations, negotiation, and competitive bidding, items of supply, equipment and services necessary for the operation of the school system.
Perform other duties/functions as assigned.
