Job Description

Hipstitch is a for profit, community art/sewing education space which offers exceptional opportunities to make, exhibit, view, think about and talk about Sewing, Fashion Crafts and Art.

Hipstitch seeks a dynamic Assistant Manager to assist with the day-to-day operations of the Studio and oversee, implement and teach Sewing, Fashion and Craft classes in the studio and at our partner schools. As well as parties and camps at the studio.

This position will have primary operational responsibility for all Hipstitch educational programming for the public.

The Assistant Studio Manager is part of the senior management team, and works closely with the Studio Manager on organizational development, and any other tasks required to maintain a welcoming, efficient studio for the staff and customers.

Daily tasks include cutting, prepping projects, teaching classes, communicating with clients and partner programs, and developing new curriculum and project prototypes.


Position Details

Management Oversight:

  • Ensure smooth day-to-day operations of a busy Sewing/craft studio, including answering emails, communicating with customers, and answering questions to promote Hipstitch programs.
  • Collaborate with the studio manager to provide the staff (direct reports and others) with a strong, supportive, approachable presence, empowering staff building, clear goals and work plans, access to resources, accountability, and troubleshooting.
  • Act as program coordinator which includes overseeing programs, policies, studio management.
  • Represent the organization externally as necessary.
  • Teach high quality instructional classes to students aged 4 through adult on machine sewing, hand sewing, and fashion design. Develop and implement curriculum for new class programs.
  • Train junior staff members on all aspects of hipstitch class programs including classroom management, sewing skills, and teaching strategies
  • Oversee summer camp planning including staffing, registration, and promotion


Qualifications:

Teaching Experience and Requirements

  • Dynamic, creative sewing/fiber arts professional, who is dedicated to ensuring our classes are accessible to students of all ages and experience levels
  • Highly organized and systems-minded, with the capacity to develop and implement efficient processes and protocols.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while meeting firm deadlines, and is comfortable and flexible taking on multiple responsibilities as needed, in both hands-on and supervisory capacities.
  • Experience working with children is required. Preferred candidates will have experience in teaching and classroom management
  • Preferred candidates will have management experience and/or administrative experience
  • Exceptional ability to multi-task and remain focused in a busy, high energy studio environment.
  • Ability to comfortably lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Must drive and own a car to teach at off site programs.
