Summary

Job Title: Assistant Project Manager / Field Engineer

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Duration: Contract to hire (goal for client is convert direct)

Rate: $30 - $40/hr - Direct target is $65 - $80K

Overview:

We’re hiring a versatile Field Engineer to join our team supporting critical infrastructure projects across the utility sector. This hybrid role combines on-site construction support with office-based coordination, focusing on project execution, contractor oversight, technical documentation, and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily construction activities to ensure alignment with design specs and project standards
  • Review plans and specifications; flag areas requiring extra oversight or coordination
  • Assist in managing project budgets, schedules, and procurement needs
  • Coordinate logistics with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams
  • Prepare field reports and planning updates for internal and client-facing use
  • Provide on-site interpretation of plans and technical documents
  • Maintain clear documentation and contribute to document control efforts
  • Support development of scopes of work, submittals, and change management processes
  • Reinforce and promote safety policies and practices across job sites
  • Conduct field walkthroughs and verify work progress against milestones
  • Represent company standards and values during site activities and contractor interactions
  • Engage in ongoing training and development as needed

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to work with project documentation
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and field operations
  • Highly organized with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable balancing multiple priorities in a dynamic, team-based environment

Preferred Experience:

  • Exposure to project controls software such as Microsoft Project, Bid2Win, or Primavera P6
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating with suppliers
  • Background in documentation processes, materials tracking, and reporting workflows
