Summary

Position Title: Project Coordinator – Customer Service Liaison

Location: Grand Rapids, MI (primary) or Muskegon, MI

Note: The majority of work will be in Grand Rapids with occasional site visits to customer locations (approximately 25% travel).

Work Schedule:

  • In-office: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
  • Field/site visits: Typically, one day per week

Duration: 08+ months contract


Department Overview:

You will be part of a team of 14 coordinators supporting residential and commercial customers seeking new utility services or modifications to existing services (e.g., service upgrades, increased capacity needs). The role involves high levels of customer interaction and collaboration with internal departments to deliver timely and accurate service solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between customers and internal departments to ensure service requests are clearly defined and executed efficiently.
  • Manage 40–60 projects simultaneously, each at various stages of development.
  • Coordinate efforts across up to 15 internal departments to meet customer needs and project deadlines.
  • Maintain project timelines using internal project management tools; ensure adherence to customer schedules.
  • Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Track and report on project milestones, proactively identifying and resolving delays or issues.
  • Champion a customer-focused mindset and deliver high-quality service throughout the project lifecycle.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience preferred; more than 10 years may be considered overqualified.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; must be comfortable interacting with a variety of personalities.
  • Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated accountability in meeting project deadlines and holding others accountable.
  • Background in utilities or construction is highly desirable.
  • Experience with project coordination involving multiple stakeholders is essential.
  • Familiarity with SAP is beneficial.
  • Experience with MS Project or similar project management tools is preferred; ability to adapt to CMS Energy’s internal project tracking system.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
