Client Details

Our client has been in business for over 30 years servicing clients throughout MD, DC & VA. They started as a small specialty contractor but have since expanded their portfolio to include commercial renovations & new construction projects worth up to $10M. They have a strong growth plan in place to achieve $150M in annual revenue and are looking to grow their team as a result. They are seeking a strong Assistant Project Manager to join their team. This person will be based on-site at a project in Alexandria, VA.

Description

The Assistant Project Manager - Government Projects - Alexandria will be responsible for:

  • Support the Project Manager in planning, organizing, and managing construction projects from pre-construction through closeout
  • Assist with preparing project schedules, budgets, and work plans
  • Coordinate and communicate with subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and internal teams
  • Track project progress and maintain accurate documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and meeting minutes
  • Help ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and contract requirements
  • Monitor project costs and assist in managing project budgets and forecasts
  • Support procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services
  • Attend site visits and project meetings, taking notes and following up on action items
  • Assist with quality control and ensure project deliverables meet required standards
  • Identify and help resolve project issues to avoid delays or cost overruns
  • Contribute to project closeout procedures including punch lists, final inspections, and turnover packages

Profile

The Assistant Project Manager - Government Projects - Alexandria will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in construction or project management
  • Familiarity with construction processes, documents, and terminology
  • Basic understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and Project
  • Experience with project management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar is a plus
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to travel to job sites as needed
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
