Summary

Role Purpose


The Assistant Project Manager (APM) will support the Project Manager and project team in delivering a project on time, within budget, safely and to the required quality standards.


More specifically, the Assistant Project Manager will:


  • Relieve the Project Manager by handling day-to-day coordination, allowing them to focus on strategic and client-facing tasks.
  • Maintain project momentum by tracking schedules, actions and deliverables.
  • Strengthen operational readiness by supporting offshore preparation (vessels, equipment and personnel logistics).
  • Ensure communication flow between stakeholders (onshore teams, offshore teams, clients and subcontractors).
  • Safeguard compliance with QHSE, financial and contractual requirements.
  • Facilitate accurate reporting so the project team and clients have reliable and up-to-date information.


Key Areas of Responsibility


  • Project Coordination - Support planning, scheduling and execution of offshore cable lay and burial operations.
  • Operational Support - Assist in vessel mobilisations, daily offshore operations and logistics.
  • Reporting - Prepare daily progress reports, update project trackers and maintain documentation.
  • Financial Assistance - Track project budgets, purchase orders, and assist with cost control.
  • QHSE Compliance - Support safety initiatives, reporting, and ensure operations meet health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Stakeholder Communication - Coordinate between internal teams, clients, subcontractors and vessel crews.
  • Procurement Support - Assist with subcontractor management and equipment procurement.
  • Project Close-out - Help compile final reports, lessons learned and close-out documentation.


Key Tasks


  • Assist in the preparation and execution of cable installation and burial project plans, schedules and risk assessments.
  • Support offshore campaign mobilisation and demobilisation activities, including vessel preparation and logistics coordination.
  • Coordinate between internal teams (engineering, HSE, procurement) and external contractors or vessel crews.
  • Track project deliverables, technical documentation and operational reporting requirements.
  • Support daily progress reporting (DPR) during offshore operations and assist in maintaining project logs and records.
  • Assist with the review and management of subcontractor scopes, ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards.
  • Participate in client meetings, project reviews and operational briefings, taking notes and following up on action items.
  • Help monitor project budgets, financial forecasting, and invoice tracking in coordination with the finance team.
  • Ensure compliance with project-specific quality, health, safety and environmental (QHSE) requirements.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project close-out reports and lessons learned exercises.

Education and Qualifications Specific to Role


Essential Qualifications

  • Degree/Master’s educated – BEng/BSC in relevant engineering/management discipline.


Desirable Qualifications or Equivalent Experience

  • Prince2 foundation.
  • Project Management Qualification (PMQ, formerly known as the APMP).


Demonstrable Experience Specific to Role


  • Substantial experience as a Project Manager in oil and gas, subsea or other related industry.
  • Able to read and understand contracts.
  • IT literate including Excel, Word, Power Point etc.
