We are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join our team delivering transformative flood risk management projects across; Cumbria & Lancashire and Greater Manchester, Merseyside & Cheshire.

You will join the project delivery teams and will either assist other Project Managers in the delivery of medium-high complexity workstreams or manage your own lower complexity workstream. You will be joining our project teams at varying points of the project lifecycle from appraisal & feasibility to, detailed design and then into construction and handover.

You will be a key part of a collaborative group that includes our supply partners, client representatives, and other technical specialists. You will develop skills in project, commercial, contract and risk management. You could also be involved in various activities such as data management, researching flood risk areas, setting up new projects, using systems and processes to help manage projects, attend site visits and public exhibition meetings.

You will learn how to apply environment legislation, policy, and guidance to deliver benefits for communities and the environment.

This role is ideal for anyone who has some experience in project delivery but wishes to develop project management skills further.

Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises. Having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment. The team

We are the Programme and Contracts Management team (PCM), creating a better place through excellence in project and programme management. The North-West PCM hub is led by a Delivery Manager overseeing approximately 75 staff, supported by Programme Specialists, Programme Managers and Project Team Managers (PTM). Each PTM manages Project Executives, Project Managers and Project Support Officers who manage the delivery of projects within our flood & coastal erosion risk management programme using our framework supplier

Experience/skills Required

Essential:

  • Analytical skills, including finance and data handling, and report writing experience.
  • Experience of working in a formal project environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in a customer or stakeholder facing capacity, with experience of conflict resolution.
  • Working to deadlines and task prioritisation.
  • Driving / vehicle licence required or means of accessing remote project sites.


Desirable:

  • Qualification (eg degree) in engineering, environmental or geography related discipline.
  • Involvement in engineering, environmental or construction project management.
  • Experience managing contracts.
  • Project management qualification (eg PRINCE2 or APM)
  • Membership of professional body (eg CIWEM, ICE).

Role specific license requirements

Full UK driving licence
