Summary

Job Description: The Department of Health and Human Performance seeks a full-time faculty member who can diversify the areas of expertise within the department, and who can create innovative and authentic learning experiences in and out of the classroom. The Department is home to the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program as well as four undergraduate programs: Exercise Science, Health Science, Physical Education, and Public Health (BPH). The right candidate will serve as a core faculty member in the MAT program and fulfill the role of Clinical Education Coordinator (CEC). This candidate will teach graduate courses in the Master of Athletic Training program, and undergraduate courses in support of the Bachelor of Public Health. Successful candidates will be eligible for appointment at the rank of either Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Professor of Practice (non-tenure track). The Master of Athletic Training program at Norwich University is a CAATE-accredited professional program with accreditation through 2031. The MAT at Norwich University develops individuals who use the knowledge and skills gained to prevent, diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate health conditions utilizing evidence-based practice such that patients benefit from a safe and efficacious return to activities and lifestyle. Being a senior military institute, we embrace the unique student population consisting of civilian students and a Corps of cadets and incorporate care of the military personnel into our curriculum and clinical work. The Bachelor of Public Health program is a 120-credit undergraduate degree program that provides students with engaging science-based foundational knowledge of health and public health. The program provides students the opportunity to expand beyond foundational public health content by taking courses in health promotion/disease prevention and disaster planning/crisis management. We seek a passionate individual with knowledge and skills in emergency response, disaster preparedness, and/or crisis management to assist in inspiring our students to make a positive impact in their communities every day. Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include: * Oversee clinical education in the MAT as set forth by the CAATE requirements * Serving as a core faculty member in the MAT program. In this role the successful candidate will: * Advise and mentor students in the MAT and department, * Participate in the MAT programmatic assessment, * Collaborate with the Program Director in updating MAT programmatic policies, * Engaging in scholarship/professional development in support of the programs' mission. * Instruction in the Master of Athletic Training program and undergraduate courses that serve the BPH. * A tenure-track faculty member typically teaches seven three-credit courses across the 9-month contract, engages in scholarship, and provides service to the institution at the department, college, and university level. * Professors of Practice focus primarily on teaching and typically teach ten 3-credit courses across the 9-month contract. Teaching release may be provided for service obligations in support of the department. * Course release equivalent to two 3-credit courses across the academic year is granted for administrative duties related to the CEC position. * Collaborate with the Program Director for Public Health programs, to meet Public Health programming needs and assist in the CEPH accreditation process, as needed. * Other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director and/or Department Chair * There are opportunities to instruct courses outside of the 9-month contract in support of the MAT and BPH programs. Requirements: Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must have: * For a tenure-track position, the candidate must have an earned Doctoral degree with a health-related focus and a minimum of a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree; or be willing to complete a Master of Public Health program to enhance their support of the BPH. * For a Professor of Practice, the candidate must have a Master degree with a health-related focus resulting in advanced practice within Athletic Training and have a minimum of a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree; or be willing to complete a Master of Public Health program to enhance their support of the BPH. * Athletic training faculty must be certified and in good standing with the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers, have a National Provider Identification (NPI) number, and possess Vermont state licensure as an Athletic Trainer at time of employment. * Three (3) years of full-time clinical experience in Athletic Training Preferred Qualifications: * Experience teaching at the undergraduate and master's levels. * Experience as a Clinical Education Coordinator for a CAATE-accredited program; or * Recent experience as a Preceptor for a CAATE-accredited program * Demonstrated Athletic Training expertise in one of the following areas: Emergency Management, Disease Prevention, Upper Extremity Evaluation, Athletic Training/ Healthcare Administration and Organization * Demonstrated Public Health specialization in one of the following areas: Disaster Response Planning and Crisis Management, Global Health, Epidemiology, or related area * Interest and ability to engage in clinical/professional practice, and/or applied research, with communities on or near the Norwich University Campus.
