The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College seeks a qualified candidate for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Computer Science. Position begins Fall 2025.
The new Computer Science faculty member will have responsibility for leading and growing the Computer Science program so the successful candidate must demonstrate entrepreneurial, creative energy and superior communication skills to effectively engage with internal and external constituencies to grow the program. He/She will be a strategic thinker, adept at building partnerships within a diverse community, knowledgeable in higher education issues, collaborative in developing team-focused, data-driven approaches to problem solving, and possess strong people-skills.
Teaching responsibilities include a variety of undergraduate computer science classes which may nclude:: Programming I, Programming II, Data Structures, Computer Algorithms, Programming Languages, Databases, Software Design and Development, and upper division electives from amongst Network Security, Operating Systems, Web Programming, Communication and Networking, Big Data Systems, Cloud Computing and Mobile Application Development
The standard load is 24 hours per academic year with additional responsibilities including student advising, participation in departmental activities, scholarship/research, and/or University or community service.
Position Qualifications:
* A Master's degree is required. An earned doctorate in engineering, computer science, or closely related field and a record consistent with an appointment to the level of Assistant or Associate Professor is strongly preferred;
* Evidence of continual advancement through career and/or academic ranks;
* Strong and sustained record of teaching excellence and interdisciplinary initiatives;
* Evidence of visionary leadership able to energize, inspire, and encourage innovation and collaboration;
* Evidence of effective community involvement, outreach, leadership, and demonstrated ability to forge partnerships with various constituencies;
* Evidence in curriculum development including a commitment to collaboration and innovative pedagogies;
* Evidence of strong interpersonal and communications skills with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members;
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues across divisions.
