The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) department at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level in the field of Computer Science with application expertise in one of the following areas: Biomedical Computation, Computational Biology, Data Science or Machine Learning. These positions are part of the federally funded multi-institutional South Dakota Biomedical Computation Consortium (SDBCC). Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science, or a closely related field.
We seek an energetic and collaborative individual that will interact with EECS faculty on the South Dakota Mines campus as well as researchers at the USD Sanford School of Medicine and USD Computer Science Department. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an innovative, independent, and translational research program that will attract extramural funding. The successful candidate will participate in the SDBCC educational and academic missions, secure and lead externally funded research and perform scholarly activities, teach state-of-the-art undergraduate and graduate courses in computer and data science, and advise undergraduate and graduate students. Excellent start-up funds, state-funded salary commensurate with experience and state-of-the-art facilities will be provided. The anticipated start term is August 2025 or January 2026.
The EECS faculty at South Dakota Mines have expertise in applied electromagnetics, antennas & communications, cyber-physical systems and security, data science and engineering, high performance computing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, robotics & autonomous systems, automatic control, power & energy systems, and virtual reality. Faculty members are also actively involved in a variety of interdisciplinary research projects across the campus.
Our degree programs are ABET-accredited Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science (with specialization options), Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering as well as Computer Science and Engineering, and Doctors of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering as well as Data Science and Engineering. In 2021, Study.com ranked South Dakota Mines's electrical engineering program in the top 10 in the nation.
