Assistant Orchestra Director JOB STATUS: UNTIL FILLED POSTING DATE: 05/06/2025 POSTING NUMBER: 00007040 LOCATION: Faubion Middle School POSITION TITLE: Assistant Orchestra Director JOB DESCRIPTION: PRIMARY PURPOSE: To produce, through excellence in instruction, outstanding performing string orchestras, small ensembles, full symphony orchestra, and individual players. To have a willingness to collaborate and assist with middle school feeder orchestras frequently, and have a willingness to collaborate with other fine arts organizations on campus. To possess the abilities to demonstrate and teach on more than one string instrument, and know pedagogical techniques on all string instruments. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Program Planning Meet primary purpose goals as stated. Assist and plan performances of all concerts, contests, and performances (on and off campus), in collaboration with the Head Director. Prepare for and participate in UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest as approved by the school principal and fine arts director. Assist students in preparation for All City, All Region, All Area, All State auditions, and Solo and Ensemble Contest. Assist in the preparation for and implementation of district-wide events when requested. Administer the in school private lesson program including monitoring of private lesson teachers. Provide the care and protection and maintenance of school property as well as inventory. Assist the Director of Fine Arts and Head Orchestra Director in the preparation of the orchestra budget each year. Perform all duties assigned by the Head Director in a prompt and professional manner. Keep and provide necessary information involving statistics, reports, and other matters about the orchestra program. Attend and participate in region and state meetings or professional organizations valuable in improving professional performance. Maintain good discipline in the organizations and classes in a fair and just manner and attempt to build the best possible attitude and spirit in the organizations with a positive, enthusiastic approach. Show a deep interest and concern for individual student and the student's needs. Demonstrate through goal-setting a clear-cut sense of direction of purpose in daily activities. Demonstrate collaborative and strategic lesson planning with the Head Director. Exhibit a positive image of the program, school, and district. Be aware of and supportive of guidelines pertaining to assignment in Board Policies and other school district regulations and procedures. Help maintain the inventory of concert uniforms in conjunction with parent boosters. Help maintain the inventory of locks and lockers. Perform other duties as may be assigned by a school principal. Develop a strong relationship with all parents. School / Organizational Climate: Promote a positive, caring climate for learning. Deal sensitively and fairly with person from diverse cultural backgrounds. Employ effective interpersonal skills. School or Organizational Improvement: Participate in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members. Assist principal in developing, maintaining, and using appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment for campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators. Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities. Student Management: Coordinate and provide adequate supervision of students during non-instructional periods. Provide input to develop a student management system that result in positive student behavior. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable. Conduct conference with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues. Present the students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district. Professional Growth and Development: Take the initiative to develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Maintain professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Communication: Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Other: Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head Orchestra Director will monitor the performance of the assistant orchestra director(s). WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions; maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to maintain composure in stressful situation, to problem-solve, to work collaboratively with others and to work on multiple projects/tasks within a given period of time. Physical Demands/ Environment Factors: Ability to travel to all campuses throughout the district; ability to transport materials/supplies to be used in presentations and in work sessions with teachers. Other: Occasional prolonged and irregular hours EVALUATION: This position will be evaluated in accordance with McKinney Independent School District Board Policy DNB(LEGAL). PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: At least one year student teaching or approved internship. REQUIREMENTS: Education / Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Valid Texas teaching certificate with secondary or all-level music certification in instrumental music.
