The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the growth and delivery of the undergraduate minor and graduate certificate program in Systems Engineering, both of which were launched in Fall 2024. About the Department of Engineering The Engineering Department is one of 11 departments within the university's School of Engineering, Science, and Technology. The department is primarily located in the Applied Innovation Hub, a state-of- the-art facility that opened in 2022. This building features technology-enhanced active learning classrooms, computer-based classrooms, senior capstone project labs, and teaching and research laboratories equipped with cutting-edge equipment and instrumentation. Additional manufacturing facilities are housed in Nicolaus Copernicus Hall, while aerospace and fluid control labs are located in the Bichum Engineering Laboratory building. The Engineering Department includes 18 full-time faculty and several experienced part-time faculty, who together serve more than 700 students (as of Fall 2024). Academic offerings include four ABET- accredited undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Manufacturing Engineering Technology. The department also includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, a minor and graduate certificate in Systems Engineering, and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, which has an accelerated pathway from the undergraduate program. The new Systems Engineering offerings are designed to complement these programs through interdisciplinary integration, applied research, and system-based design education. This tenure-track position in Systems Engineering involves responsibilities in teaching, research, and service, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will develop and teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Systems Engineering, contribute to student research and capstone projects, and maintain an active, continuous research agenda in areas such as systems modeling, analysis, integration, or optimization. Additional responsibilities include supporting the development and maintenance of teaching laboratories, participating in program assessment and ABET accreditation activities, advising students, serving on departmental and university committees, and engaging with industry partners and community stakeholders. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester, which may include evening courses. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise and versatility in teaching a broad range of engineering topics, with particular emphasis on Systems Engineering principles and applications, and show evidence of ongoing scholarly and professional development in the field. Applicant Evaluative Criteria Applicant profiles and supplementary materials will be evaluated for appointment based on the following: To be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor: * An earned doctoral degree in Systems Engineering or a closely related discipline (e.g., Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical). ABD candidates must provide a letter from their dissertation advisor confirming the anticipated completion date, which must be before the appointment start date. * A bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. * A minimum of two years of relevant full-time industry experience or equivalent research and development experience in industrial or government research laboratories. * A publication record commensurate with the candidate's level of experience * Evidence of effective communication Preferred Qualifications: * Demonstrated college or university-level teaching experience as the instructor of record in Systems Engineering or a closely related (Teaching assistant experience alone does not meet this requirement) * Demonstrated expertise and versatility in teaching a broad range of engineering courses, including systems engineering topics. * Experience with ABET accreditation activities, including developing and maintaining teaching * Familiarity with integrating modern tools and technologies used in systems To be hired at the rank of Associate Professor: * An earned doctoral degree in Systems Engineering or a closely related discipline (Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical). * A bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. * At least five years of full-time service in a college or university at the rank of Assistant Professor or above, teaching courses in Systems Engineering or a closely related field. * At least two years of relevant full-time industrial experience in the related areas or equivalent R&D experience in industrial and government research labs. * Publication record commensurate with * Evidence of effective communication * Evidence of ongoing professional development in the field of systems Participation in conferences, workshops, or training related to advancements in systems engineering.
