Summary

University Advancement at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks candidates for an Assistant or Associate Director of Development. The Assistant/Associate Director will represent the University of Virginia, its programs, policies, personnel, traditions, philosophy, and objectives to all constituent groups. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Assistant/Associate Director will focus on fundraising efforts to support programs related to the priorities of the School of Architecture.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build and manage a portfolio of current and prospective major-gift level donors ($100K+) and move them towards giving levels that achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals of the University. The Assistant/Associate Director will be expected to create personalized strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals within their portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan to include special events, communications, annual campaigns, and major gift strategies.
  • Travelling nationally to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects.
  • Collaborating with other fundraisers in the department and across the University in overall relationship building of alumni, parents, and friends to ensure a coordinated approach for prospects and donors and to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation plans.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Assistant Director:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • At least three years of related experience for Assistant Director/ Five years of fundraising experience for the Associate Director level.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel nationally.

Associate Director

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Five years of fundraising experience for the Associate Director level.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel nationally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exceptional communication skills, a high degree of personal integrity and the ability to keep the big picture in focus while attending to the small details.
  • Demonstrated success cultivating high-level relationships.
  • Experience using data to evaluate and plan.
  • Experience in higher education development with a track record of closing five-figure (Assistant) or six-figure (Associate) figure gifts.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does require traveling to attend meetings and programs. The successful candidate must be able to travel frequently domestically and be available for occasional evening and weekend work.

All team members must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools. Depending on the type of position and work performed, or as deemed by the manager, some positions may be required to work intermittently in. This position is eligible to work remotely, although frequent visits to UVA Grounds and our office space located in Charlottesville, Virginia required. The ideal candidate will live within driving distance.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Assistant Director: $60,000 - $67,000 commensurate with education and experience

Associate Director: $70,000 - $77,000 commensurate with education and experience.

This position will remain open until filled. This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
