Learn more about American University Department: International Admissions Shorelight Time Type: Full time Job Type: Regular FLSA Status: Exempt Work Modality: Hybrid 01 (On Campus 3-4 Days/Week) Union: Excluded Job Description: Summary: The Assistant Director for International Admissions serves as the primary contact between the Shorelight Boston Office, the International Accelerator Program (IAP) and the American Collegiate Program at American University as well as the International Student and Scholar Services office in reference to undergraduate applicants to the International Accelerator and American Collegiate Programs and any additional AU offices that have questions regarding Shorelight applicants (Controller's Office, Registrar's Office, Global and Immersive Studies, Advising Units, etc). This position is responsible for evaluating academic credentials and determining admissibility into American University as either non-degree or degree-seeking students for all Shorelight-referred undergraduate applicants. This position coordinates semi-annual review of all Shorelight and American University agreed upon processes and policies. This requires minimal supervision. Admissions Evaluation and Decision Making * Responsible for the review and evaluation of all Shorelight referred undergraduate applications. * Confirms the authenticity of academic and other application credentials, conducts international credential review, and makes admission decisions on all applicants to the IAP and American Collegiate Program at American University. In collaboration with AU IAP staff, the assistant director ensures successful enrollment and progression of admitted IAP students. * Attends regular meetings with the Accelerator Director of Admissions. * Maintains and reconciles student records within student information systems. * Works with Registrar's Office, Student Accounts, and Controller's Office to reconcile student records. * Responsible for the processing and evaluation of non-Shorelight referred applicants as needed. 2.) Policy Review/OE-Shorelight Liaison * In conjunction with Shorelight, develops, maintain, validates, and updates the rules, regulations and governing documents that determine admissions eligibility for the IAP and American Collegiate Programs. * Informs Shorelight staff regarding policies related to AU direct entry international student admission requirements. * Provides reports to several AU offices regarding the number of students referred from direct entry to Shorelight and Shorelight to Direct Entry. * Develops and implements processes to create greater efficiencies with the admission, enrollment and progression of IAP and American Collegiate students. * Attends IAP/American Collegiate orientation to collect admissions materials required for OE. 3.) Communication and Information Dissemination * Serves as the primary contact between the Shorelight Boston Office, the International Accelerator Program at American University as well as the International Student & Scholar Services in reference to undergraduate applicants to the International Accelerator Program and the American Collegiate Program. * In addition, the assistant director responds to telephone and email/web inquiries, counsels Shorelight and non-Shorelight referred applicants regarding IAP and American Collegiate entry requirements. * Corresponds with government offices, foreign ministries of education, US Consulates and Embassies, foreign secondary and post-secondary institutions, and education agents. 4.) Recruiting * Conducts local recruitment visits to select high schools, community colleges, and embassies primarily to share the opportunities available to international students via the International Accelerator and American Collegiate Programs at American University. * In addition, the Assistant Director conducts information sessions for Shorelight visitors, including prospective students, high school counselors, and channel partners. * Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibility: * Directly supervises 1 FT International Admissions Counselor. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: * Full-Time. * 35 hours per week. * Exempt. * This position is externally funded. Salary Range: * $58,000-$62,000 annually. Required Education and Experience: * Bachelor's degree. * 1-3 years of relevant experience. * At least 2 years of professional experience including international admissions, transcript evaluation, credential evaluation, writing, public speaking, problem solving, public relations, and strong computer skills. Preferred Education and Experience: * Master's degree. * Knowledge of a foreign language is desirable.
