Summary

PRIMARY PURPOSE


The Assistant Director of Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement is primarily responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement (IME). This includes implementing student-centered programs, mentoring student leaders, and analyzing program data to drive retention and engagement efforts. The ideal candidate should have experience in creating more access, belonging, and student engagement around inclusion. This individual should have a passion for working with college students at a small liberal arts college. The Assistant Director of Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement reports directly to the Director of Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES


Program Leadership and Development

  • Lead and support IME programs, including focused programming such as the Great Expectations Mentorship (GEM) program, Heritage Month celebrations, first-generation programming, and supporting our student-athletes through the Collective.
  • Develop and implement programming to create more access, belonging, and student engagement for all students.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to organize campus-wide events, including MLK Day, student leadership training, and Heritage Month celebration programming.
  • Create and analyze program assessments, using data to inform retention strategies for campus student populations.


Student Support and Engagement

  • Mentor and advise student staff coordinators, GEM Mentors, and student organization leaders.
  • Provide individualized support, advocacy, and referrals to campus resources that promote student persistence and belonging.
  • Facilitate leadership training and programming to enhance student engagement across campus.


Administrative and Operational Support

  • Oversee daily operations of the IME office space, including social media, website management, purchasing supplies, and managing email communications.
  • Assist in managing office logistics and handle administrative duties for program execution.
  • Evaluate office activities and provide direction in the absence of the Director, prioritizing departmental and divisional needs.


Collaboration and Representation

  • Represent IME in divisional and campus-wide committees, ensuring alignment with the office’s mission and goals.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external campus stakeholders to advance diversity and inclusion initiatives.


Tools and Technology Management

  • Utilize Google Workspace (Drive, Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Forms) for effective communication, organization, and data management.
  • Maintain proficiency in online research, website navigation, and social media tools to enhance outreach and engagement.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage competing deadlines.
  • Excellent mentorship and leadership abilities, with a demonstrated commitment to guiding and supporting student leaders and staff.
  • Excellent crisis management skills, providing effective support during challenging situations while maintaining composure and professionalism.
  • Proficient in using Google Workspace (Drive, Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Forms) for communication, data organization, and project management.
  • Proficient in analyzing program data to assess effectiveness and implement strategies for continuous improvement.



REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One year of experience in creating access, belonging, and student engagement.
  • One year of professional experience working with college students who have experienced economic, social, or other barriers or those who come from economically or socially disadvantaged backgrounds.



PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in designing, planning, and implementing major programs, events, and initiatives related to multiculturalism and diversity.
  • Experience working in a small liberal arts college or a related field.
  • Two years of professional experience working with college students who have experienced economic, social, or other barriers or those who come from economically or socially disadvantaged backgrounds.



WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full-time (1.0 FTE)
  • Benefits Eligible: Yes
  • Standard workweek: 37.5 hours/week
  • Travel: Occasional travel for conferences and events
  • Hybrid/Remote: Primarily in-office with occasional flexibility for remote work as necessary



PAY RATE

  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Starting at $50,000 to $53,000 per year, with consideration for experience
