Basic Function

The Howard University has an opening for a full time Assistant Director of Enrollment Services within the Graduate School. The position sits within the Office of Graduate Student Affairs, reporting to the Assistant Dean of Graduate Student Affairs and Enrollment. The Assistant Director of Enrollment Services supports graduate student recruitment, retention and enrollment initiatives within the Graduate School, and is responsible for a variety of specialized data analysis to support enrollment-related reporting. Work includes event planning and coordination for recruitment, orientation, graduation, and other large-scale Graduate School events. The incumbent will conduct data analysis, including interpreting and drawing summarized conclusions from data, and preparing reports to support data-driven decision making. The Assistant Director of Enrollment Services will have a broad understanding of the important issues that currently exist in higher education including strategies that support student retention and success.

Nature And Scope

This position requires interaction with Graduate School senior and support staff members, department chairs, directors of graduate studies, admissions committees, graduate faculty and students, the Office of Enrollment Management as well as the Office of the Registrar at the University.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Conducts short- and long-term planning, project management, and event coordination for a variety of large-scale events hosted by the Graduate School
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues in coordinating student services offerings, including Office of Student Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Office of the Registrar, and other university offices to stay informed of changes to internal and external policies and procedures
  • Assists students in person, via email, and via phone with navigating administrative processes related to enrollment-related functions (registration, email access, etc.)
  • Coordinates and supports student retention programming in collaboration with Office of Academic Affairs as well as student engagement initiatives within the Graduate School
  • Identifies trends in customer inquiries as well as opportunities for process and service enhancements
  • Conducts enrollment-related reporting to support and advise senior management in activities such as: market research; student retention (in collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs), and enrollment benchmarking
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure the completion and accuracy of external and internal reporting
  • Contributes to assessment of recruitment and retention initiatives (in collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs) to enhance decision-making, problem solving, strategic planning, and external reporting
  • Periodically reports on key performance indicators of student initiatives and tracks performance over time to assess effectiveness of initiatives
  • Uses established reporting tools and enrollment CRM to develop queries for data extraction, reporting, and analysis and applies rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure data accuracy and work collaboratively with various University offices to ensure data integrity
  • Supports the management of departmental ad-hoc data requests from internal and external stakeholders
  • Serves as a liaison to faculty and staff in the development/improvement of programs that enhance student success
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Core Competencies

  • Event planning and coordination with high level of attention to detail and strong organization skills
  • Prior advanced knowledge/familiarity with Excel
  • Understanding of and experience using Salesforce, Slate, or GradCAS (or similar CRM system) is a plus.
  • Significant experience with gathering, editing, analyzing, and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to present complex and technical information and concepts effectively to a broad constituency with a wide range of data sophistication
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of tasks simultaneously
  • A high attention to detail and the ability to QA data at a glance or in depth
  • Ability to work autonomously and with minimal guidance
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships with faculty,campus officials, staff, and community agencies and schools and students from diverse backgrounds required.

Minimum Requirements

Qualified candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience or hold a master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

Expected Salary Range: $68,000 - $75,000
