We are looking for a new team member in our Accounting Department, as an Assistant Controller, part of our larger Specialty Group team. This is a hybrid role located in our new, state of the art office space in the Wakefield, MA headquarters location for the TMHCC Specialty Group. Apply right away!

Performance Objectives

Within the first 30 days, you will gain an understanding of the department procedures, systems, and corporate policies, and how the Accounting department operates within the TMHCC Specialty structure through training and interactions with the accounting team and become familiar with our customers, suppliers, and employees from other Tokio Marine subsidiaries.

Within The First 60 Days, You Will

  • Gain an understanding of our accounting software system, PeopleSoft, as well as our policy administration system, IBM iSeries.
  • Review and approve
    • employee expense reports
    • a selection of month-end close journal entries
    • a selection of balance sheet account reconciliations
    • bank transactions.
  • Assist with
    • accounting for new derivative business venture
    • lease accounting
    • implementation of new accounting policies, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and IFRS
    • annual budgeting process
    • internal and external audit queries
    • questions from accounting staff, and directing daily operational accounting activity
  • Perform income statement analysis and research variances.
Within the first 90 days, you will

  • Work independently, meet deadlines and demonstrate the ability to meet challenges related to job responsibilities
  • Contribute to company project to shorten month-end close timeline
  • Suggest control and process improvements, including evaluating technology to help with automation of routine tasks and enhanced reporting

Your Skills And Experience

  • Minimum 4-year bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, a related field or the equivalent education or experience
  • 8 years of relevant and progressive experience in accounting with 5 years of leadership
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred
  • Advanced proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word) and PowerBI
  • Experience using enterprise software (PeopleSoft experience a plus)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Superior organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
