Summary

An established organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support financial operations and personnel management in a confidential capacity. This leadership role collaborates closely with the Controller to oversee internal controls, financial reporting, personnel supervision, and ERP system management (NetSuite), ensuring the financial health and efficiency of the organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Controller in preparing monthly financial statements and analyzing organizational performance.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Research accounting issues for GAAP compliance and assist with tax-related matters.
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts and monitor select balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare and monitor agency-wide invoicing and expenditures.
  • Contribute to financial forecasts, projections, and documentation for annual external audits.
  • Conduct periodic petty cash counts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with payroll-related and union-related matters in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Supervise, lead, and support finance team members, including the Affiliate Accounting Manager and Senior Accountant.
  • Develop training programs and strategies for finance personnel in collaboration with the Senior Controller.
  • Perform ad hoc projects and provide support to the Senior Controller and CFO in a timely and accurate manner.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance, accounting, or business operations. Nonprofit experience is preferred.
  • CPA certification or 2-4 years of public accounting experience.
  • Intermediate or advanced computer skills, including MS Office and ERP systems. NetSuite experience is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a proactive approach toward improving processes.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, meet deadlines, and maintain high attention to detail.
  • Leadership experience supervising staff, including hiring, training, performance management, and disciplinary action
