Our client, a prestigious private social club, is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Controller who plays a key role in supporting the financial health and operational efficiency. This position will assist the Controller in overseeing daily accounting functions, preparing financial statements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to the overall financial strategy. The ideal candidate has a solid background in accounting, strong attention to detail, and experience in the hospitality or private club industry.
** Please note this is an on-site, contract role with the opportunity of temp-to-perm. Pay will be $90k-$110k/yr.**
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage regulatory compliance including tax filings, business licenses, and ABC requirements
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure accuracy in tax withholdings and employee hours
- Administer employee benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, and enrollments
- Assist in preparing monthly financial reports, audits, and variance analyses
- Support the annual operating and capital budgets and provide ongoing forecasting
- Monitor member billing and account activity
- Supervise accounts payable, receivable, and general accounting functions
- Reconcile bank statements and oversee cash flow reporting
- Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
- Coordinate with external auditors during the annual audit process
- Supervise and train accounting staff and support their development
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in hospitality, private club, or service industry preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP and payroll/tax compliance
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Familiarity with point-of-sale and club management systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Occasional evening or weekend work required during audits or events
