Summary:
The Paver Operator is responsible for the operation of the paver to lay or spread asphalt material onto rock base or existing pavement in smooth and consistent fashion in preparation of finished mat and assisting with all phases of the paving operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Move paver into position, set the screed down, set gates and feeders while the dump truck backs into position to dump asphalt into the hopper.
After screed operator sets screws and electronics, proceed forward slowly, pushing dump truck as it remains engaged with paver.
Monitor augers to ensure they are partially covered and turning evenly, praying lubricant on hopper, conveyors, augers, gates and screed to prevent damage.
Frequently scan paver to ensure smooth material flow, maintaining movement forward, aligned with guide, checking overhead for obstacles, wires or objects in paver’s path.
Inspect physical condition of paver for damage or wear that may affect productivity and/or safety and report any findings to Supervisor.
Perform daily pre-start up procedures; i.e. note the service due date, check fluid levels and make sure the equipment to be used is in good running order.
When job does not require paver operation, inspect, clean and maintain paver as needed
Assist crew members towards job completion.
Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task; properly follow all Company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
Perform projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or its equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in paving and in operating asphalt paver is required
Ability to understand and follow instructions; communicate with supervisors, co-workers and the public.

The employee is occasionally required to reach, push, and pull with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical dexterity may involve stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions. The employee must be able to maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities occurring at the site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
