About The Role
The Industry, Innovation and Small Business Group is responsible for developing and supporting industry and business development in SA and growing the state’s research and innovation system – including facilitating collaboration between Universities, Research Institutes, Businesses, and Government.
The Economic Insights and Data Analysis Team is responsible for providing accurate and current macroeconomic and operational data analysis and insights to teams across DSD. The Team works collaboratively across the department with program managers to standardise outcome reporting metrics, support data management, and undertake data analysis. The Team also provides data and analytics advice for the development of new departmental programs and policies.
As the Data Analyst in the Economic Insights and Data Analysis Team, you will support the development of high quality reports, analysis and insights of externally sourced data, and internally generated operational data. You will support the implementation of automated data-workflow processes and maintain accurate and current data reports that teams across the department utilise for the development of evidence-based, strategic policy advice that aligns with government and department objectives. You will also support program teams to align reporting to a standardised set of departmental outcome metrics.
Key Competencies
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
- Capabilities in data management, data modelling, and analytics, adhering to organisational data governance framework policies.
- Proven technical skills in Power BI, Power Query, and Excel and the ability to develop clear and informative data reports.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of national and South Australian economy including the major indicators that track economic and business growth, innovation, viability and sustainability.
- Broad understanding of how the research and innovation system in Australia and South Australia supports and influences productivity and economic growth.
You Will Also Have
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex tasks and apply lateral thinking to develop and implement effective solutions.
- Proven skills in synthesising, collating, and presenting complex information in a clear and concise manner to a diverse audience.
- Strong interpersonal, communication skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with government and key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under broad direction, using strategic thinking, sound judgment, and political sensitivity.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the capacity to respond to shifting priorities and perform a range of duties to deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes and resources.
Remuneration
Competitive salary $85,790 to $95,143 pa plus superannuation

- Essential: Nil
- Desirable: : Tertiary qualification in data analytics or related discipline.
Special Conditions
- The role will be offered as a full-time (37.5 hours per week), 12-month contract position.
- A Satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check (NPC) will be required prior to employment.
