This position is part of the YMCA Arts & Humanities programs provided to youth, adults and families. A YMCA arts instructor is responsible for instruction in a specific arts area: Visual Arts Instructor, Music Instructor, Drama Instructor, Ceramics Instructor, Recording Studio Instructor, and Cooking Instructor, to all ages and abilities; and provides a quality experience to students and parents while focusing on the Y core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Essential Functions
Leads preparation of lessons in relation to pupils' needs and instruction of specified arts.
Acquire appropriate teaching materials and resources.
Create class curriculum that relate to abilities and ages of participants.
Promote a positive environment that fosters fun, safety and YMCA values.
Oversee additional staff or volunteers (depending on size and scope of assignments) as directed by supervisor.
Provide lesson plans and supply lists.
Arrange performances and displays of arts
Attends all required staff meetings, trainings and activities.
Positively promotes the YMCA in the community.
Qualifications/Requirements
Applicant must be 21 years of age or older.
Must have a high school degree or equivalent.
Must have successful continuing education and/or professional experience in the specified arts in which applicant is applying.
Applicant must have successful teaching experience, and the ability to demonstrate educational practices including classroom management, knowledge, and demonstration of a high level of specified arts proficiency.
Must be able to organize time efficiently and accept responsibility with limited supervision.
Must be able to read and interpret written documents and be comfortable with conveying verbal and written information.
Must be able to address concerns and issues with confidence and professionalism, and have the ability to speak effectively with staff, participants, children & parents, collaborators, vendors, and volunteers.
Must have knowledge of all basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division using whole numbers, fractions or decimals).
Must have excellent instincts to assess participants, parents and collaborators needs in the areas of safety, education and customer service.
Individuals must have basic level of PC skills with email and Microsoft Office.
