We're looking for a seasoned Art Director with a strong AA+/AAA background and a proven track record on at least 2-3 prominent shipped titles. This is a pivotal leadership role suited for someone who thrives on defining and driving a compelling visual direction while leading high-performing teams to create world-class game art.
You'll be the key stakeholder for all art deliverables, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure visual excellence and production efficiency from concept to final asset. This role requires both creative leadership and practical production expertise, with a strong emphasis on communication, mentorship, and vision. This is a Europe-based position.
This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Art.
Key Responsibilities
Own and drive the artistic vision of the project, ensuring consistency across all visual elements
Act as the key decision-maker for all art-related matters and deliverables
Communicate and align the art vision with both the internal team and external stakeholders
Guide and mentor the art team, helping to grow their skills and maintain motivation
Define and uphold the quality bar for all visual assets
Create clear and detailed art briefs, style guides, and visual bibles
Oversee concept development and provide direction to internal and external concept teams
Support client partnerships by interpreting and expanding their creative vision
Maintain a high-level view of the project while managing detailed feedback and execution
Collaborate with production teams on scheduling, planning, and milestone tracking
Play an active role in recruiting and onboarding new art talent, including oversight of the Associate Art Director during candidate evaluations
Support studio bootcamps and training initiatives to develop emerging talent
Foster a collaborative, inspiring, and inclusive art culture within the team and studio
Requirements
8-10+ years of industry experience in game development, with at least 2-3 AAA shipped titles
Prior experience as Art Director on large-scale or complex projects
Strong visual storytelling skills and traditional art fundamentals
Deep knowledge of current workflows, pipelines, and game engines (e.g., Unreal, Unity)
Excellent critique skills and the ability to guide others toward artistic excellence
Highly effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills
Strong sense of ownership, organization, and attention to detail
Ability to balance visual fidelity with gameplay and performance considerations
Familiarity with building and maintaining positive client relationships
EU-based willing to relocate to Malta or Poland, or travel to our studios for extended periods during critical development and delivery phases
Fluent in English or a native English speaker
