ONO (Obata Noblin Office) is looking for an architectural model maker! We are seeking a collaborator to join our small design-driven architecture office focused primarily on residential and small commercial projects. The ideal candidate will have a passion for architecture, a strong design sense, and an ability to work collaboratively. We strive to create a fun studio atmosphere and work a 9am - 6pm schedule. We have a lovely office in San Francisco with lots of plants and natural light, come join us!

We're seeking a skilled and detail-oriented model maker to play an integral role in our design process through physical model-making. You’ll work directly with the design team to explore form, material, and spatial ideas — from rough study models to detailed final models.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the design team to produce high-quality physical models that support concept development and client presentations
  • Confidently operate tools and machinery including laser cutters, CNC mills, and standard wood shop equipment
  • Translate digital models into physical prototypes using Rhino, Fusion 360, or similar CAM software
  • Maintain a high standard of craft and precision across all stages of model production
  • Organize and maintain model-making tools, supplies, and workspace
  • Assist with rapid prototyping, mock-ups, and custom fabrications as needed
  • Bring a strong design sensibility and critical eye to how models communicate architectural ideas
  • Photograph and archive all models

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related field
  • Proficiency in Rhino, Fusion 360 (or comparable CAM software) Adobe Suite, and familiarity with digital fabrication workflows
  • Strong hand skills and a love for working with physical materials
  • Experience with wood shop tools, CNC milling, and laser cutting
  • Metal shop experience plus
  • Excellent eye for detail and material finish
