Summary

General Summary

Reporting to the Fleet Manager, provides mechanical support to the fleet mechanics and performs various basic tasks and minor repairs to the fleet vehicles.

Principle Duties And Responsibilities

  • Inspects fleet vehicles to determine if it meets the mechanical standards as established by the Fleet Manager.
  • Maintains a listing of vehicles needing repairs to their physical appearance both inside and outside. For example: wheels, paint repairs, mud-flaps, etc.
  • Reviews the DVIR’s submitted by the drivers and completes any needed repairs. Notifies Fleet Manager of any major problems with the vehicle.
  • On a daily basis, documents the type/amount of parts and labor expended on completed and on-going work orders
  • Fuels and washes the fleet vehicles as needed
  • Completes minor vehicle repairs as instructed
  • Assists the Fleet Journey & Master Mechanics with repairs and projects.
  • When necessary, transports drivers & mechanics to/from vehicle repair facilities and drives to vendor locations to pick up needed vehicle parts
  • Maintains a safe work environment by following company/departmental safety practices and procedures.
  • Operates various garage equipment including a forklift.

Miscellaneous Functions

  • Performs other tasks & duties as assigned or required.
  • During peak business periods and/or extreme weather conditions, may be required to work an atypical schedule or work in other capacities within the organization.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Maryland Driver’s License, Class B CDL preferred
  • Ability to effectively verbally communicate with co-workers
  • Ability to understand, comprehend and follow basic directions and pay attention to detail.
  • Must be able to periodically work independently.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions including moderate to high noise levels, dust and dirt, lubricant/petroleum products and exposure to inclement weather (rain/snow, cold, heat).
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time (8-10 hours).
  • Frequent bending, lifting, carrying, pulling/pushing of items weighing 50 lbs. and above.
