This Application/Solution Architect Lead role is a very important and highly visible role that attracts attention from all stakeholders within the company and group.

This role is responsible for leading the Solution Architecture team and driving the adoption of efficient Enablers (ABB) and Solutions (SBB) that are available across the enterprise, including Japanese businesses and corporate functions.

The Solution Architecture team aspires to accelerate the value of architecture across Japan and globally by embedding architectural mindset and principles into engineering processes and talent.

The Application/Solution Architect Lead will help advance the strategies of business and corporate functions around the simplification and modernization of our technology stacks by focusing on the discipline of Enterprise Architecture (EA).

Additionally, the team will provide architecture consulting on large, business-critical programs and initiatives with high business visibility, impact, and/or significant risk and complexity.

As a core member leading the Japanese and global architecture, you will work closely with the following colleagues:

・Global architecture team, including Japan/US

・Architects for each domain (e.g. Business, Data, Application/Solution, Technology /Infrastructure, Security)

・Japanese businesspeople (e.g. business users, application owners, CIOs, business executives, application development teams, infrastructure product teams, project teams)

・Affiliated organizations within the group (e.g. US/Global BU, CTO(Chief Technology Office)/CDO(Chief Data Office), capability owners)


[Necessary experience and skills]

・Development experience related to core business systems at a life insurance company, such as life insurance core systems or customer management systems.

・Architect experience for both cloud (AWS) and on-premise environments.

・Experience taking a leading role in developing application/solution architecture strategies and roadmaps that ensure consistency across different countries within a global company

・Strong communication skills in both Japanese and English (conversational ability to facilitate, discuss, negotiate, and build consensus, plus ability to create formal documentation for meetings in both languages)

・Experience leading and implementing optimization efforts across applications spanning specific business domains (e.g., sales, product development, marketing, etc.)

・Experience leading a department or team in a line management role.

・Comprehensive experience in application development processes, including requirements definition, design, development, testing, release, and operations, in either cloud (AWS) or on-premise environments.

・Experience leading and implementing optimization efforts across enterprise-wide applications

・Experience managing application development projects in cloud (AWS) or on-premises environments

[What is expected of Application/Solution Architect Lead]

Development and Application of Target Architecture

Establishing and applying target application/solution architecture in alignment with business strategy and EA frameworks/principles.

Establishing and applying roadmaps, standards, patterns, guidelines, and best practices for realizing the target architecture.

Leadership, Strengthening, and Management of the Solution Architecture Team

Leading and guiding the Solution Architecture team, supporting the promotion of high-quality application/solution design and adoption of standards/patterns.

Holistic Analysis and Optimization of Business Needs and Applications

Collaborating with stakeholders to clarify and analyze business needs, providing effective technical solutions in alignment with EA.

Gaining a cross-functional understanding of applications, data, and technology supporting the business and planning optimization across the enterprise.

Design and Development of Solutions/Patterns

Conducting comprehensive system design and architecture development to support diverse business requirements.

Leading the development of patterns that encompass business value clarification (e.g., cost-effectiveness, reduced delivery time) and considerations such as scalability, performance, and security.

Collaboration and Communication

Building collaborative relationships with business leaders, project managers, and development teams to ensure a shared understanding of overall architecture design and project goals through effective communication.


Responsibilities:

Define architecture patterns and reference architectures across the architecture domain, collaborating cross-functionally as a thought leader, contributor, and collaborator in the designated area. Adopt architecture to drive the realization of business strategy and enterprise goals.

Establish EA standards and create artifacts for domain architecture. Define logically abstracted patterns and reference architectures as the foundation of architecture standards, and develop roadmaps for implementing the architecture standards.

Ensure that architecture patterns are modern, current, reusable, and readily adoptable/utilizable across Japan and globally.

Consult with the team to define solution implementations that align with modern/current patterns and reference architectures, fostering co-creation and evaluation of implementation patterns that can be utilized across the enterprise.

Collaborate with other teams to promote adopting architecture principles and patterns, leading efforts to evangelize and promote patterns and reference architectures. Influence implementing solutions that align with architectural principles and support the goals of modernization.

Evaluate implementation solutions and influence design solution architecture for alignment with EA patterns and standards (includes integrations, technology platforms, capacity, and performance management plan) and for alignment with business strategies and enterprise goals. Identify and classify tech debt where solutions deviate from alignment.

Ensure architecture standards and solution architecture designs align with security requirements.

Review new technology use cases, define/design Enterprise Architecture Review Board (EARB)-approved architecture patterns, and build accelerators (e.g., code templates, reference architectures) to enable rapid adoption and implementation by Application and Platform Product teams.

Scan the market for emerging solutions and new architectural concepts that address challenges or enable new use cases.

Select new technologies to address challenges or deliver solutions where existing technology doesn't exist, existing technology doesn't adequately meet business needs, or new technology delivers better outcomes (e.g., higher performance, lower cost, etc.).

Obtain approval of new or modified standards from the Enterprise Architecture Review Board (EARB).

Evaluate the application portfolio; apply Application Portfolio Management practices and influence application disposition for the application portfolio.

Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for a team of Solution Architects focusing on growth and development; accountable for the performance of the team's function.



Qualifications:

・ At least 10+ years of technology leadership and management experience in Enterprise Architecture and Solution Architecture

・ Technical Acumen

Deep understanding of programming concepts and a history of building and architecting a diverse set of applications with experience of the integration of applications to support business and technology processes and a deep understanding of the business processes that their solutions support.

・ Modern Architecture Thought Leadership

Strong knowledge of EA and Solution Architecture frameworks and best practice with awareness of current trends for new architectural patterns and concepts and the ability to apply those patterns and trends to help achieve business-focused transformation outcomes.

・ Influencing & Building Relationships

Ability to build collaborative relationships and guide/influence engineering teams credibly and consistently to new methods of implementation.

・ Communication Skills

Ability to clearly communicate the vision and target state and influence the adoption of enterprise architecture principles, patterns, reference architecture and standards to demonstrate progress on technology maturity.

・ Prioritization Skills

Ability to manage multiple efforts across different areas with experience managing projects, budgets, and schedules to successful completion.

・ Intellectual Curiosity

Continuous learning mindset with a demonstrated aptitude for understanding strategic investments and new technologies.
