We currently have an opening for an Applications Systems Specialist

This is an anticipated vacancy. This position is expected to become vacant on 5/1/25.

The primary responsibility of the Applications Systems Specialist is to provide software support to the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) – State Automated Driver License System (SADLS) business unit to provide automated support for valuable DMV business processes.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Technical and analytical work in developing, designing, and supporting SADLS applications for the business, research, and instructional functions of clients
• Partners with business systems analysts and business relationship managers to gather requirements and design applications systems within the standards established for the state. This includes technical work with large sophisticated applications and the management of application system implementation projects
• Work with many levels of management and technical architects to define and design applications to meet the automation requirements of the SADLS
• Coach and mentor other analysts by sharing comprehensive knowledge of the applications and technical skills required to support the applications
• Support the SADLS Help Desk and go on call as needed to support the batch cycle

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities / Competencies

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

• Demonstrated experience programming and developing Mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, CICS and JCL
• Demonstrated experience writing and translating specifications to write programs to produce desired results
• Demonstrated experience applying an approved system development life cycle (SDLC) in developing technically complex applications
• Demonstrated experience with analytical and programming techniques in the development of mainframe applications
• Demonstrated experience reviewing and analyzing user requests to design programs and/or systems
  
  
  

The following Management Preferences are not required, but applicants that possess these skills are preferred:

• Knowledge of CICS based SOAP Web Service development
• Knowledge of CICS based REST API development
• Working knowledge of IBM's IDz (IBM Developer for z/OS) tool
  
  
  

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive experience in business application consulting or development

OR

Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of progressive experience in business application consulting or development

OR

High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma and eight years of experience in business application consulting or development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

HYBRID/FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULES:
