As an Applications Engineer I, you will help support the end-to-end delivery of customer part development from initial proof of concept to high volume manufacturing. You'll be working in a fast-paced environment and will be required to perform across multiple disciplines including customer development, engineering, manufacturing, test, and quality inspection. You'll also be responsible for assisting in the management of multiple customer projects, by providing technical data and testing support in addition to hands-on operation of our printers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work directly with customers and our internal engineering teams to deliver high-quality prototypes and advance customers through learning cycles and manufacturing qualification stages
  • Support and serve as part of the technical project management staff for multiple customer development projects, which includes defining and aligning customer requirements, developing a timeline and resource plan to meet those requirements, and driving execution of engineering decisions and plans
  • Operate multiple 3D printers, lead and/or performing post-printing inspection and test activities, and prepare technical reports and presentations to summarize results and status
  • Collaborate with internal R&D teams to iterate printing parameters and refine current systems based on direct experiences with customers
  • Become an expert in Fabric8Labs technology and manufacturing process, including its advantages relative to competing additive technologies and conventional manufacturing methods
  • Maintain up-to-date situational awareness on the status of mature and emerging manufacturing technologies


Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Material Science, or related field
  • 1+ year of relevant professional experience
  • Relevant knowledge in manufacturing of metal parts, with: an understanding of the available processes, quality inspection techniques, and reporting methods; an understanding of test methods for determining material properties and sub-component performance; and an understanding of material science fundamentals and how microstructure affects metallurgical properties of various metal alloys
  • Skill in project management, with ability to support complex projects with interdisciplinary stakeholders, ability to foresee and mitigate risks and potential issues, and ability to effectively communicate plans to customers and internal stakeholders
  • Experience with 3D modeling, i.e. parametric design, analysis of solid models, and manipulation of 3D design files, utilizing software tools such as SOLIDWORKS
  • Understanding of GD&T and ability to read, analyze, and author engineering drawings
  • Growth mindset with a determined, results-driven approach to meet customer objectives
  • Ability to comfortably navigate ambiguity and resolve unexpected challenges

Salaries are commensurate with experience and qualifications. The expected salary range for this role is $70,000 to $90,000 annually.
