Applications Engineer Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Sales, this role will be responsible for proposal and quoting activity for all company product lines. While the primary focus will be the Custom Controls product lines such as gas insulated switchgear (GIS) and generator circuit breaker (GCB) control cabinets, additional activity may include quoting and proposals for custom switchgear retrofits, air core reactors, spare parts, and field service work. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES * Develop and maintain expert level of technical and product knowledge around control equipment related to gas insulated switchgear, generator circuit breakers, switchgear cubicles for hydro-power and pumping stations, and substation protection & metering panels. * Be the technical liaison between the customer and internal groups during the proposal/quoting stage * Interact with customers to address any technical or commercial questions and/or resolve issues related to the proposal * Report to Director of Marketing on technical or commercial issues arising from customer comments and/or application specific criteria. * Administrative duties include entering new orders, managing internal cost databases, implementing customer requested changes, etc. SPECIFICATION REVIEW: * Review customer specifications for switchgear and generator circuit breaker equipment to understand end user requirements and identify features which impact the control cabinet design/cost * Interface with customers to clarify specification requirements and/or request additional information in order to properly cost and price a solution * Create initial proposal review worksheet with estimates for material, engineering, & labor * Manage bi-weekly proposal review meeting with engineering, production, and purchasing teams to review new projects and gather required feedback to develop cost/pricing models and review any deviation(s) from the customer specification. COST ANALYSIS & PRICING * Utilize cost/pricing templates to develop appropriate pricing for all proposals * Maintain existing cost/pricing templates with up-to-date information and develop new pricing templates as needed. * Work with purchasing department to develop costs for new materials and components * Maintain database of cost information for key materials and components * Work with engineering and production managers to generate estimates for required labor and resources * Work with engineering team to properly scope and price customer requested changes PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT * Develop quotes and proposals for all customer projects and review with Director of Marketing * Verify proposal meets all requirements of customer specification and any deviations are clearly noted * Maintain a list of open projects with due dates to make sure all customer proposal schedule deadlines are met ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: * Assist in development of sales literature for new and existing products * Attend trade shows as needed EXPERIENCE: * 2+ of experience with an electrical equipment OEM working in an electrical technology role * Experience in the electrical utility industry (preferred but not required) * Two to five years of experience creating/using cost models and writing proposals SKILLS: * Working knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, electronics, and/or electrical control systems * Effective interpersonal and communication skills * Ability to work independently * Conscientious attention to detail mindset * Strong work ethic * Aptitude for Problem solving * Basic financial aptitude (revenue, cost, profit) * Proactive mindset and personality * Curiosity and desire to understand how/why things work as well as ability to challenge the status quo and recommend improvements * Effective writing and presentation skills * Capable of multi-tasking in a small company environment * Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe) EDUCATION: * Associates of Science degree in a technology discipline (Preferred) After you have applied, download our Staffmark Group WorkNOW App to receive real-time job offers and apply for additional opportunities.
