Summary

Department: Dean, Optometry Salary: Commensurate with experience Description: Analyzes, develops and modifies complex application programs utilizing non-core, under minimal supervision. May provide support to enterprise systems. 1. Codes, tests, debugs, modifies and troubleshoots application programs and ad-hoc programs in accordance with shop standards. 2. Analyzes complex application processes and integrated computer systems and their underlying data structures; identifies and resolves problems. 3. Defines, analyzes and documents business processes, practices and requirements. 4. Assists users in testing business processes; defines, conducts and monitors system test procedures. 5. Provides technical assistance and training to junior-level staff. 6. Documents tables, data structures, run streams, and programs according to generally accepted practices. 7. Develops technical documents pertaining to system design and programming requirements; develops user manuals. 8. Uses non-core technologies to design, code, test, debug, modify and troubleshoot systems, such as voice activated responses, electronic data interchange and web interfaces. 9. Learns new technologies and techniques. 10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Additional Posting Information: Experience will be considered in lieu of education. Education will be considered in lieu of experience. MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience. Basic qualifications · (Preferably 3+ years) Experience in designing, implementing large scale Data Lake and Data Warehouse in the cloud · Experience in using one or more query languages (e.g. SQL, HiveQL, SPARQL), schema definition languages (e.g. DDL, SDL, XSD, RDF), and scripting languages (e.g. Python, Scala) to build a data solution · Understanding of distributed system concepts from storage and compute perspectives, including data persistence solutions (e.g. HDFS vs RDBMS), data integration techniques (e.g. ETL vs federation), database optimization (e.g. partitioning, distribution, indexing), and join algorithms (e.g. hash vs nested loop) · Experience in CI/CD automation for a data lake using CDK (Cloud Development Kit) or Terraform Preferred qualifications · Experience in building data management platforms with AWS services such as Athena, Glue, Lake Formation, Step Functions, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, Relational Database Service (RDS), Amazon EMR and Amazon Redshift · Experience with healthcare data formats such as HL7/FHIR, genomics data, and medical imaging data · Understanding of healthcare infrastructure and security requirements · Understanding of database and analytical technologies in the industry including MPP and NoSQL databases, Data Warehouse design, and BI Ops All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
