An Airport Maintenance and Operations Technician is responsible for performing a variety of semiskilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of Falcon Field Airport. The incumbent assists with airport improvement projects and ensures contractors are in compliance with airport safety requirements. An Airport Maintenance and Operations Technician is required to use appropriate safety equipment and follow safety procedures, including unique requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). An employee of this class is required to respond to airport-related emergency situations as directed by the immediate supervisor or upper-level of management (24 hours a day, 7 days per week). Work is often performed under adverse weather conditions and exposure to aircraft hazards and moving vehicles. Duties may include pesticide and herbicide application for weed control and pest extermination to maintain airport safety. Work is subject to irregular hours (including evenings, weekends, and holidays). This class performs related duties as required.
This class is distinguished from the class Airport Electrical Maintenance Technician by the absence of duties involving work with higher voltage electricity and the absence of lead worker responsibilities. This class is supervised by the Airport Maintenance and Operations Supervisor and is FLSA nonexempt.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications Required. Graduation from high school or GED. Good (1 - 3 years) experience in facilities, grounds maintenance, or other related maintenance experience.
Special Requirements. Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date. Must be able to obtain pesticide applicator license within first six months of hire.
Substance Abuse Testing. Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this classification, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy and procedures.
Preferred/Desirable Qualifications. Experience using a two-way radio in airport setting is highly preferred. At least six months experience in airfield maintenance is desirable.
